  • Although I'm on the 3rd phase - consolidation - of the Dukan Diet, I'm still losing weight.

    Down to 66.4 kg today, that's 10 stone 6 1/4 pounds.

Watched a TV programme earlier in the week, a series over 3 evenings, about bread-making in the Yorkshire Dales. It was in a place we know - Bedale in Wensleydale, a church we went to a few weeks ago and also featured the Wensleydale Railway which I support (we went there for one of their steam weekends). Any commercially-made bread, even the ones we like best like Hovis original, contain approx 13 ingredients, whereas 'artisan' bread contains only flour, water, yeast, salt and a little sugar to rise the yeast. I'll never again eat commercially-produced bread! We are lucky in that we have a bakers' shop near us where they bake fresh every night. I went there yesterday and discovered that they make a special 'low GI' loaf with lots of seeds in. It's really lovely, far better than anything the supermarkets sell. 'Use it or lose it'. We're lucky that we still have a traditional butcher who sells meat from no more than a 50-mile radius, a baker who bakes fresh every night, and a small fruit-and-veg shop. For the 'big things' we decided to go to Tesco but decided against it because DH can't stand for too long waiting at check-out, so we have a delivery coming this afternoon - things like loo rolls, basics, what we can't buy locally - and that will do us until the New year.

Have just had the gardener who planted some little fruit trees for us, 2 English apple trees and a dwarf pear tree. That will do until spring, we can batten down the hatches now and stay warm until the year turns.

I am joint SOTW :T Congratulations Beanie
Don't think I will be sustaining it this week though. Went away for a few days Xmas shopping and afraid I over-indulged :o Had a lovely time though so not going to beat myself up over it.

Welcome scottish_stresshead - it shows determination to start trying to lose weight at this time of year, well done. I am sure that you will find the support you need here, just keep logging in and join in with as many of the challenges you can. Maybe you should explain to your mum that although you know she has your best interests at heart presuring you is not helping. Ultimately you have to lose weight for yourself, not for anyone else Good luck :)

    Such sad news :(

Well just two days away Christmas shopping has resulted in a
2.75lb gain  I dread to think what Christmas will do.

I have two nights out this week and a Christmas lunch in work today so not expecting great things next week either.

I think my strategy for minimising the damage will be to continue to go to the gym and bootcamp regularly throughout the Christmas break ( presuming they are open - must check holiday timetable) and to carefully plan what food I buy. I don't really 'need' 2 dozen mince pies :o

I suppose since this is really a way of healthy living I have to get my head around how to manage celebrations and special occasions. Don't want to have a miserable Christmas by constantly thinking about what I eat and drink but also don't want to end up a stone heavier in January. Need to find a balance. Any advice would be welcome :)

Good luck with the weight loss this week everyone.
