That is so sad. :( Things like that really worry me, DS1's nurse has told me that as he was so young when he got it, he could experience complications like that as soon as his early twenties  It is more to do with poor blood sugar control than the insulin though, so there is the hope that he will be fine if I can keep a good control of his sugars.

And anyway, he's going to be a scientist when he grows up and will cure diabetes, so we won't have to worry about it for much longer... :D

Ok, thanks. I'll try and look it up later

Unfortunately he listened to the stock advise kept eating tonnes of carbs and then adjusted his blood sugar with drugs

We explained to him that biologically you need zero carbs to live and that if he halved them he would halve the amount of medication and probably double the length of time before he had these complications

he wont listen, what can you do ..

I am keeping an eye on calories, but also reducing my carbs and am using the site Foodfocus to help me keep track of my calorie and carb intake.

I registered on Foodfocus and according to them I need to eat less than 1500 calories to keep losing weight at the same rate :eek::eek:

I like the food logging though and will keep that up.

  • Sorry to hear about your friend Eric; hope is doesn't come to amputation.
I don't calorie count at all, but I do keep an eye on portion sizes, so just because something is zero carb, I don't completely pig out on it, I try to look at my plate and keep to what I think look like normal/modest portions. I think that it is important to remember that your weight loss may stall, even with low carbing if you make a pig of yourself too much!
  • Managed 40 mins on the treadmill today.
I have tried to set up the Wii fit today. It has not been used for about a year and I can't get the balance board to work, even though it is fully charged. Anyone have any ideas how I might get it working please?

Well please can I log 3 hours guess what I was doing.... You know it, cycling.

I 'bonked' awfully at mile 40 and have been sick all the way home but managed to hang on for dear life to take the bronze medal and a goody bag of high cal mega carb nutrition :rotfl:

Thanks for all the positive vibes, need to work on what I eat when racing as it went badly wrong in that respect today, 2000 cals burned though. Out of 10 I will give me a 7!!!!!

Maybe it needs synching. There should be a button you press together with a button on your wii. Try that.

Such a shame, I've spoken to DS1's consultants many times about reducing carbs and every time they have told me not to bother and that the Eatwell Plate will tell me everything I need to know - oh dear!

I reduced them anyway (only a little bit) after reading up on it all, and the change was amazing. It is pretty obvious that if you reduce the carbs you can reduce the insulin too, and there is then less room for error, which improves control as well - something they're always banging on about, yet don't provide answers to.

Thanks Matryoshka, I have tried that but the blue light goes out and when I press it again, it starts flashing again.

Can you log 1 hour for me yesterday FS? Spent the afternoon pounding the streets of birmingham city centre, stopping off for a Starbucks to break up the day of course.:)

Thanks Eric and lolly. Yes you could do anything. You have more determination in your little finger than most people have in their entire body! My philosophy there is no hill that can not be walked.

I have been craving carbs big time, felt very tired and sick after race. Ate pasta followed by 2 rounds of toast ooops!
