Well I guessed the clumsily nonchalent approach was best. Especially as thats the way she seems to be with me quite a lot. Like when she commented on my newly decorated lounge telling me what I could do to make it look nicer. It had taken me nigh on 3 months to finish it
oh it sounds so fun... :rotfl:

as you say looks like you've got a result! Hope the rest of the wedding plans are less stressful :D
  • Huh that is no friend!!!!!!!!!!!!! Each person's decoration is to their own taste and if peeple don't like it they know where the door is!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If you wait for perfect conditions, nothing would ever get done! :T

    Good for you sportbeth.

I have had friends like yours myself in life, and once their true colours are revealed, they really do need "culling" as a prev poster put it! I don't bother with "best friends" as such now, but i have a few close pals now that I know i can count on in times of need.

That mate of yours wouln't have stayed for the duraion anyway. I detest freeloaders.

    Good Luck for the future,

Sportbeth - I can't believe that she said that about your decorating. Never mind sacking her as a bridesmaid, sack her from any part of your life!!!! She sounds absolutely vile.

Hooray! You did it! Well done that woman, and as you guessed she appears to have vanished, it's a shame really when you think about it that she could be so closed minded that all she was bothered about was a posh frock (or at least that's how it seems)! But still the deed is done and you can have a lovely wedding now!

  • I would invite myself down for a weekend to see her and treat her in the same way she does you. While there take her to Monsoon where you can get gorgeous bridesmaids for £150 (ours from there were £125) and tell her that you have been shopping with your other bridesmaid and you have picked the frocks.

Forget monsoon and take to M&S and BHS (less kudos). Next have a pink bridesmaid dress for £60. Tell her that contrary to what she obviously thinks, OH doesn't earn a fat cat salary and money is really tight and you are having to do it on the cheap.

At the end of the day, you have got to tell her that she has got the wrong end of the stick about your finances and if she wants to continue to be your bridesmaid then she has got to start behaving as an understanding best friend and not a freeloader. If you aren't bothered if the friendship continues, then call a spade a spade and see where it goes.

Good Luck, I hate these confrontational situations but it is better to get it out in the open.

I havent read the whole thread so sorry if I am duplicating what someone else has suggested. If you really cant get out of it - Could you suggest that instead of being your bridesmaid she may like to do a reading/say a prayer/read a poem? My SIL wanted to be bm at my wedding but as I see her approx once a year (translated as once too many!) I didnt want her to so asked that she may like to doa reading. Kept her, DH and FIL happy!

I've the opposite problem than you at the minute. I am bridesmaid twice this year and would love to just be a guest and not do it - no getting out of it though :)

    Good luck with the wedding
