How's your new job as Head of Tesco Apologists going then?

I think that the OP is not to blame, and that the cashier should have been trained correctly. Although it is a lot of coupons that she used, many of us carry wads of vouchers around with us waiting for the right cashier. Tesco policy differs so much that each time you shop it is different, you can have NO vouchers accepted one day, and then 90% the next day.
My advice would be to contact the manager who sent the letter, say that you are unwilling to pay for goods that have already been purchased using vouchers accepted by one of his/her employees. Let her know that the only reason you returned for a second shop was because you asked if this was possible, and the member of staff told you it was ok.
I don't think they've got a leg to stand on.0 -

Well i thought this site was about consumer revenge:money: !.
Now if you use the somerfield coups in a self scanner till,i would presume? you could be accused of fraudulent use. However if a till op accepts the coupons you have clearly done nothing wrong, the till op must have looked at the coupons & ok'ed them.I was refused the somerfield coupons by a till op on a shop over xmas,i said "i thought you accepted them",she replied "we do,BUT only if there is a somerfield store in direct competition locally".As i say we will all have differing opinions on how many coupons we use in one transaction, but at the end of the day the till op accepted them:cool: ,its not as if you have sneaked them into the till:rolleyes: .0 -

I guess your talking about Tesco greed here? The way they destroy local businesses, town centres and screw supplies so hard that they go out of business!!!
Tesco is the one that is Greedy. If their till operator or system allowed the OP to use vouchers to such a degree who's fault is it?I am NOT a Woman! - its Overland Landy (as in A Landrover that travels Overland)

Right, here's my tuppennyworth, as a seasoned (!) coupon-user:
First, OP, ignore all posts from abercore1234*?! and dbonbon who are, I am afraid, misinformed. You have not acted fraudulently at all.
Read the posts by Overlandlady and DWM which give great advice IMHO, and also Crocker may well be onto something as this COULD be a wind-up.
Presenting money-off coupons without buying the product is NOT fraudulent on the part of the shopper. They are a valid method of payment, certainly if they were manufacturers' coupons Tesco will get all its money back and more (the handling fee on each coupon).
It is up to the store how many they accept, but the only (possibly) fraudulent part of the transaction is when the Supermarket redeems coupons knowing many were NOT accepted for that particular product. Tesco and others 'get away with it' at the moment because they sell a shedload of the products and the coupons presented represent a tiny amount of that; the manufacturers know this anyway.
If they were all Asda and Somerfield ones, etc., then they won't be able to redeem them....but still you have not acted fraudulently as they were offered and accepted as a method of payment. Personally I would not hand over lots of this type of coupon though, knowing they are not redeemable.
So calm down, have a closer look at the letter (was it hand-delivered? Does it have contact names, phone numbers or refs? Could it be a wind-up?).
If you think it's really from Tesco you could ignore it anyway, you never received it did you?
(if sent by normal post). If you wish to do something though, phone the store as in Overlandlady's first post (before I start, can I ask how you got my personal details?).....if it's via Clubcard tell them you will be checking with their HO that they are entitled to access this data as you believe they are not.
Tell them they are wrong (libellous even) to suggest voucher-use is fraudulent in any way on the part of the shopper, you have taken advice (from us!) and as the transaction is already completed there is no 'outstanding amount'.
Good luck, you have done nothing wrong.
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

Any chance you can scan the letter and post it here? Maybe blank out personal details and names.0

It sounds a little suspisous (Sorry cant spell) have you told any friends/relatives that like to have a little ( in their books - huge in yours) joke?
I used a few coupons the other day & the CO said hed taken payment for all of someones shopping in coupons when he 1st started. He got a telling off but hes still there & acting like he couldnt care about it either.
Keep smilimg & try not to worry too much things could be a lot worse. Start quizzing any friends you think might be capable of a wind up. Take a couple of days to assess then make a descision when things have calmed down a little.0
