We recognise that the service that we have offered you over the last week has been unsatisfactory.

Mmmmm. So no offer of a refund, no acknowledgement that it was about 2 weeks of rubbish service. This is a fob-off.

[I have not had any email replies from Tesco internet - any recommended email address?]

I don't think it is a fob-off, although it was a long wait they have restored the service and plan to restore lost data and acknowledged it was a poor service in their email ( check your spam folder, mine went in there, and different addresses received the email on different days - I think they are going for a staged response).

As for refund that is something I think you'll have to take up individually as essentially you are paying for the broadband service not the email. I don't pay at all, I just use the email service ( now have different ISP), so I'll be chuffed if I get addresses/email back albeit a very long wait.

Gvmarsden - thanks for the update, good to know someone has had their emails restored. I'm still waiting but have had the we're sorry email and your story gives me hope that it will happen in next few days.

It has taught me something though - backup email addresses, download/copy/forward any important emails straight away.
I have also taken opportunity to unsubscribe from a lot of emails.

They're back! I expected it to happen overnight but it happened just now.

I lost a few of my oldest emails ( April) which had still been in my inbox at the point of the day before problems. I knew I had to download them in the next few days, but obviously left it to late. Can only remember one set of emails I lost, not sure about others.

Reason I left things in inbox was in case I needed to reply ( can't reply with outloook with AOL as ISP). Perhaps if I had moved them to a folder they would have remained longer than 120 days ?

considering this statement on their website from them I think they have done ok

You must keep your own back-up copies of your website and emails. We do not keep back-up copies of your website or emails and will not be liable for any loss or damage to them, however caused.
  • Yes this 120 day limit is a proper PIA. I've asked about 'private' folders will post answer when I know.
  • And saying 'you must back up' is a laugh as there's no tools for doing so.

So I reckon I've potentially lost 18 days email from inbox as they have only restored 120 days worth.
My emails were in accessible from 4th to 22nd. They should have extended the 120 days to take this into consideration.

    Dear Customer,

We are writing to give an update on the email issues that you may be experiencing. We have resolved the performance of the platform and you will now find that your login is quick and emails are arriving in a timely fashion. However we're aware that some of you are still without old emails and contacts.

We apologise for this unsatisfactory situation and we want to reassure you that we have been working with our supplier 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to resolve this.

We are now able to start restoring the missing emails and contacts and we expect this to start Friday and it will take a few days. Please note that this will be done in two steps - firstly all emails up to 28th July, 2011, followed a few days later by emails up to 5th August. Any contacts created before 28th July will be recovered first, any new contacts in the second phase.

Unfortunately the recovery process has taken longer than we expected. We're proceeding with caution to ensure that it is resolved correctly, and all issues are addressed thoroughly.

We're sorry for any inconvenience caused and thank you for your patience.

    Yours sincerely,

    Tesco Customer Support
  • This is 16/09/2011 Tesco (w******) email service completely DOWN I had email from them 2dys age that said all would be changed over to a new & better system 'first 2 wks in october' so why is it DEAD tonight Tesco ARE a JOKE
  • I phoned in Sat at 9:00am still wern't 'open' tried a few more times up to 9:04 no joy. Then at 9:07 'all ops engaged!'. Listened to recorded message abt eml being un- functional said to type in HTTP:(address) Tried it but no go surprise surprise!! Phoned in later got a very quiet ladywho re iterated eml probs. said to try 'oldmail.tesco.net' I explained thats not what is on taped advice message. She just repeated to try the old mail route. It worked at third attempt. System restored Sat afta....Tesco broadband are really having BIG problems.Ive had low download speeds for weeks AFTER them increasing speed to 2mg to keep me as a customer. Some nights only gets to 0.73 ! really no s*** !!. They blame exchange too many subscribers. Tesco say BT wont recognise a 'fault' on line until speed drops to 0.4!! Is this true or are Tesco broadband team shooting me a line?
  • Hi saver0811 I DO have problems with Tesco broadband I wouldn't waste my time with comments if I wasn't LOL! Ive better things to do with my life. I guess its easy for anyone Tesco included to assume its a local problem....very or otherwise!! When all else fails ISP blame BT comms. thats the easy way out. Unfortunatelt the ordinary man or woman in the street generally hasn't the technical training/equipment and or time to pursue the REAL reasons for poor ISP 'service'. Say someone bought a car that HAD recurring faults...would they be happy to go away with the 'thats the best we can do' attitude. Suck it and see?? Don't think so. I was in the motor trade for almost 40 yrs it 'dont' work!!!
