Greenbee, do you remember what happened to my settee covers? They all shrank and now I have a throw over the settee (in my study) and wondering whether I could manifest some new covers from somewhere.

Good morning, people of the Matrix. I did sleep late again and am pottering about. Today there will be two things to approach: one, I am going to decluttering a particularly bad chest-of-draws and two, I am going to work on the blog (by the end of today it will have a tag cloud and manifesto). and of course a run - running the distance from here to Istambul will take some doing.

Go for it Dora, we did the same when we agreed DH should quit his job, and it is amazing how much better we all feel and how the money is stretching a lot further.

That said I need to get off my bum and actually do something today.

    Morning ladies,

Dora go for it. We can do anything if we put our minds to it.

Sleepy here today and all my own fault. My friend came round after X Factor and we sat here he hawing and laughing til 3am!!! Going to miss him but thankfully his mindset is now 'I cant wait for a night out in Eburgh' rather than 'Dont go!'

Just spoke to my friend who has the flat I'm renting and it's good to go whenever I want it.

Off to pack for my trip South tomorrow and then being taken for a belated bday lunch at 1. Frock and heels required for that X

  • Just tried to make my first batch of HM soap and it has gone wrong. Gah!

It was all going right until I added the essential oils. I'm sure there's not entry under lime and peppermint in my book saying 'will cause your soap mixture to raise out of pan like a creature from the Black Lagoon'. Wonder why that happened?

Ah well, breakfast, shower & hair wash, then on with the rest of the day.

    See you all later! :)

i've washed these before and have a spare set (although i've put them on and can't for the life of me work out where the spare seat cushion covers are). However, if you want new covers, I believe MG has the solution for you :p

Ahh morning all. I'm progressing well with the DIY. The radiator has been sanded and the dodgy bits painted over twice ready for a final coat. The door to the boiler cubby hole has been sanded ready to be masked and then turned into a blackboard with some special paint. The old draught excluder things have been prized off the windows, which are ready for sanding. Now I'm upstairs doing some reading for uni. The aim for the end of the day is to have all the sanding done, so tomorrow I can get painting and I can finally clean up these piles of dust from every surface downstairs!!

Good luck wih the sofa MG.

Congrats Dora, you should write yourself a letter and put it away until 23rd October next year :D

Glad you mentioned it! Problem is that following MG's manual will mean that I have to have basic skills (using my hands and using a sewing machine) and this will be much harder than the simple baking you have all got me up to.

  • Hi Dora - nice bit of thinking. I have also struggled with the evening slump. What I found really helpful was reminding myself I had choices. The stuff that needed doing doesn't change; studying, cooking, cleaning, walking the dog, exercise, sleeping (!), it's always there. What I can change is my response to those things. They can weigh heavy & seem like a mountain or I can choose to take pleasure in them, & acknowledge that, though routine, everyday stuff, they are still achievements. So everyday I achieve! By acknowledging my daily achievements somehow there seems to be more time... not sure how that works but it does.

Goodness knows, it's heaps easier to to happy and achieve, than be miserable and resentful and achieve. And you know what's best, it all only thoughts and they're free! No need for special gizmos or stuff. I just notice my thoughts and when they are less than helpful, eg. "God, I'm so tired, I can't be bothered, what's on the telly?" I give myself a shake, take a breath and do the 15min thing, or sometimes a 2min thing, or if it's a dog walk a 40min thing :-)

And sometimes, I do nothing at all for days on end and wallow in it, knowing that tomorrow I can start again. :-)

I'm off to make brunch, de-pot my tired tomato plants, take dog for long blast somewhere bracing. I stayed up late reading Make do & mend. I'm only on p 218. It's going to take weeks to get through all the threads but yoy know what, you are all amazing. It's a little mini soap opera full of positivity, achievements and support for each other. Thanks.
May you be safe. May you be happy. May you be healthy. May you live with your heart at ease.

Well done everyone, I have been a real sloth in comparison. This morning I got around to tidying my conservatory from dead animals and the head count was 7 mice and 2 birds  I know my cat loves me but little purr and a cuddle would do nicely without these plentiful presents.

I have 4 hours to get showered, dressed, breakfasts, packed, fetch BF and buy new knitting needles. WM is on so can't have a shower yet, better get on with the other stuff...

Not too much at all, Dora, as the reactions show. Each of us, I believe, went through a similar process and it works. I could have written what you wrote about two years ago. Since then, have educated myself about all things money, reduced monthly expenditure by more than £2,000, have paid off more than half our negative wealth (it started very high let me tell you), we have increased our income and expect it to go much higher, I have been doing things I never thought I'll do (like becoming a blogger and part of the most interesting and inspiring community after the Matrix) and I don't watch TV.

Not mentioning the running - I was already a runner.

So go for it and whenever you need to talk, or just a nudge, we are here.
