I'm shattered so stopping for lunch and hoping it doesn't rain! I have manhandled a 6' teak table and bench (very solid, they are about 50 years old and were made for my grandparents' wedding anniversary) into the shed all by myself. The small table is also in (also solid teak, belonged to my godmother) as is the steamer chair (from my dad who got fed up with moving it when he mowed) and all the folding chairs. And I've realised how lucky I am to have inherited all this fabulous garden furniture as there is no way I could have bought it myself!

My parents Christmas present of two garden recliners (lafuma ones bought on offer) is also put away, so just the small bench to go in and then the kindling, salt and recycling bins. A few bits to sort through, and then a decision to be made on whether to keep two cheap folding garden recliners with foam cushions. They get damp in the shed and hold moisture, so I think it may be best to get rid of them. I have the steamer chair and a sunbed and lots of cushions, so I don't really need them.

I have located all the bits for the utility room (spare doors, worktop and tiles) which hopefully will be useable. I should probably go through the stuff on the shelves more carefully, as it's all stuff that OH and my dad say might be useful, but for the life of me I can't see what for!

Baked beans and naan bread for lunch... Well, there was a naan bread I hadn't got round to freezing and beans are the quickest thing to go with it! Must plan properly for next week!

    Afternoon all! :)

Sorry to be MIA, but things have been stupidly busy again.

    In :money: related news:

~ I made home-made pizzas for 5 for dinner last night and they were GORGEOUS. I can't ever imagine buying a pizza again, they were that nice. Also, I think it cost less than one large pizza from Dominoes, and were infinitely nicer! :)

~ I've paid a stonking £541.62 off my credit card, with potentially more to come (I think I may get a Quidco payment of £16.something this month, which will go straight off it, plus anything more I can afford to pay at the end of the month). Long may it continue :T

~ I really want to make some basil infused olive oil as we have a ton of basil left over from last night. All the recipes I've seen online say it only lasts a few days. Anyone got any ideas on how to make it last longer, safely (and avoid botulism etc.)?

~ I really want to make some nice soap. I seem to remember a discussion about some goats milk soap or something that was easy to make as you didn't need all the complicated gubbins to make it, just let it dry out naturally for a while. Anyone got a recipe/link, please? (Why do I think of MG and Cheery Daff when I think about that?)

Other than that, things are the same as always. I need to get a wiggle on with lots of things today (list to follow to break it down):

    Practice music
    Tidy room
    Super Secret Squirrel Project (SSSP)
    College writing homework
    College massage homework
Early night (very important - never get any of those)

Oh, and answer lots of text messages before people think I'm ignoring them.

Better get on with it as that's quite a potential Ta Da list. :D

Basil - hang the whole bunch upside down and leave it to dry. Also stop buying the cut one - I am doing much better since I get the one in pots. You water and use as much as you need - the rest grows and is 'alive'.

All the garden furniture is safely put away (the patio looks huge without it!) and the shed is tidy. I have kindling and small logs stored in a combination of dog food sacks and potato sacks, and all are easily accessible. Salt is now in a bin, so less messy and easy to get to. I still have some tiles to sort out for the utility room but the box looks very spidery so I'm ignoring it for a bit :o other than that I just need to empty some compost out of the pots that had busy lizzies in to dispose of and wash out some buckets. Over the next week I also need to pick the last of the peppers and tomatoes, compost the plants and use the spent compost to mulch the flowerbeds.

My mother is due to arrive in a couple of hours, so I'm going to have a bit of a rest with a book and LOTS of water before I tidy up the kitchen and sitting room.

  • Sounds like some amazingly productive weekends going down here :T.

Whereas here at Thrifty Towers not much done on the practical side but a culling of blahdom has taken place and a plan of action moving forward has been formulated, so am well pleased :T.

Thanks for the linky MG - she is already planning her first venture on a leather jacket - wants to make a laptop case and a bookmark for dad for Christmas (apparently!)

Have spent day in Blackpool - dd's birthday treat cos she is too old and sophisticated for a party and dh wasn't working today. Went into tower but not up it cos lifts weren't working in the high winds. Circus was ace and she got a birthday mention too. All tired but happy and called in at posh area co-op to get bargain foods - family chicken pie for 40p, bread for 20p and sausage rolls for 30p. Just got to work out meals for week around them now.
