I know this is a pretty cheeky question Dora - but what size is she?

Maybe we could knock up a few patterns for you to cut the costs? I have some girlie fabric that I could turn into skirts n stuff.

    MG

Any ideas would be appreciated MG - a lot of the stuff she seems to have barely worn and I would like to try my hand at turning some of it into new outfits - have already nipped off some too tight sleeves and half created a waistcoat but now my sewing machine has self destructed am having to finish it by hand.

Have also stashed a few favourite bits as it is my long term intention that when she eventually leaves home she will be accompanied by a beautiful quilt made by her mum - so far I have some material and a lot of good intentions!

Size wise she is tall (144cm) and skinny and (at 10) is starting to get a very small bust:eek: oh and she is all leg!

    Afternoon all

Glad to see you all doing so well.

Dora - I need to sort the boys clothes this week too and get the chests of clothes down from the loft to see who has grown into what.

DH still beavering away at the loft insulation, now it is so much colder we hope to get the benefit almost instantly. Heating still off here (I try to last until half term) but we do have the AGA and I'll be lighting the log fire tonight.

Planning on reclaiming my Sundays so I've bought a saturday paper today to enjoy tomorrow and apart from cooking meals I intend to have a day of craft, reading etc.

I need to get some baking done and make a difficult phone call.

Freezing. Heating is on but will come on a bit later - so I have the shape of an astronaut from all these layers I am wearing. Apart from that I am resting and reading a book I want to finish today - it is called Uncertainty and interestingly is about the fact that two kinds of fear stop us creating: the fear of loosing it all and the fear of ridicule and criticism. As many of you know I have been going on about this for sometime now - difference is Jonathan Field offers practicable ways to cope. Book is brand new, btw.

  • Have been on an interesting day learning about some church legal bits and pieces, and a great chat with a friend afterwards. Am freezing cold but have decided that a half hour weeding will be good for the soul, and the figure, and might warm me up.

Then I am going to sort out my phone - DS keeps fiddling with it, apps need a cull and I really should get my calendars to sync properly.

    That will do for starters.....

Although no one can go back and make a brand new start, anyone can start from now and make a brand new ending.... life is a WIP.

Ting!!! Ting!!!! All patchworked out - but now have panels for most of the sofas made.

Pizza dough is proving - and popcorn ready to be popped, so I may just venture into the loft and liberate a ball or two of wool and start a jersey for DS2 (well it gives me an excuse to sit in front of the telly on a Saturday night - thinking something in a funky rib that can be done on auto pilot.

But first - 15 minute blast of the living room as it has been well and truly "played in" all afternoon by two very happy wee boys ................. where did I leave the timer???

So far have created a waistcoat and now a skirt out of stuff that didn't fit - am quietly proud of myself and dd seems quite impressed too. No idea what to do with a long sleeved jersey top which doesn't seem to fit in any direction though....might make a scarf (its in her favourite black and purple so she would definitely find a use for it!) Then the rest of it could possibly make a bag of some sorts.....

Sounds as if everyone has been productive :) I have been to the farm shop for veg, hardware store for kitchen roll, laundry bleach, DW tabs and coal, two supermarkets for various bits, the dry cleaner to drop off stuff and make them mend the skirt than came back with the hem down, and the discount shop for a cheap bin to keep the salt for the drive (I bought two 25kg sacks of DW salt last year and still have lots, but its the cheapest way to buy and I mix it with ash when it is snowy or icy. I also went to the tip (heaving, partly due to someone having driven into someone else...) and have also salvaged the shredder from the shed, as shredded paper is useful for lighting the fire, and if I have it by my desk I could in theory shred each item as I discard it... We'll see whether it works!

Tonight will either be a DVD or a new book to read in the bath...

Probably haven't done as much as I

Great to hear about all of the diminishing debts and crafty things going on! :)

Yesterday the 'stroll and chat' with sister turned out to be a bit more of a serious exercise session, we ended up walking over 4 miles and I was walking my fastest and still couldn't keep up with her!

Study session with Mum is postponed until tomorrow afternoon.

Today we were going to move the coal bunker, but OH didn't think we could move it without it falling apart as it's concrete and had several large cracks in awkward places. We looked into buying one, but gave up as cheapest one was £60. OH is now thinking of making one himself and will look into the costs.

On the up side, we have cleared the top part of the garden (ready to put the bunker) and we have enough coal left for about four fires. We have also cleared out some of the shed and found more wood that can be turned into kindling, plus a bag of logs hidden under a pile of 'bloke stuff', to me it just looked like rubbish, but it is apparently very important!

Callisto - I keep my coal in a large plastic dustbin that has the lid held down with a bungee. Admittedly I mostly burn wood, so i don't have a huge amount, but if you can round up a few old bins (wheelie bins are usually big :)) you might at least be able to keep the majority of the coal somewhere safe. Can you lock your bunker?

Kindling - this year I will mostly be using fruit tree prunings. It's a pain cutting them the right size when you do the pruning (I store them in empty dog-food sacks) but they burn really well.
