Have a look over on the OS board. If you do an advanced search using " banana" and" bananas" as terms and search titles only you will find lots of threads with ideas of what to do with over-ripe bananas. (often the search doesn't work, but I'll post a link anyway:http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/search.php?searchid=110488743 )
Personally I make smoothies as the boys love them - whizz up a couple of bananas add a scoop of icecream or a pot of yogurt and milk. Taste and maybe add some honey or syrup if you need extra sweetness.

These threads also offer other ideas, like freezing for instance.
Banana loaf is good too and there are many recipes on OS, just see which ones suit what ingredients you have around.

  • Thanks to Groatie Queen and Eager Elephant for their kind and helpful words.

It's a difficult thing for me to contemplate (and tbh my own worst nightmare if it were to happen to me). She'll be 88 in December and in other ways she's still hail and hearty. I feel that moving into a home could kill her as she is staunchly independent and still does shopping and errands for her elderly neighbours, but having care in her home would be seen as almost as bad to her; her recent behaviour suggests that either would be safer for her though.
I'm going to have a ponder and a browse through the links GQ sent (thank you) before I phone my Mum tomorrow as she stays over at Gran's on Saturdays to go to church together in the morning.

Still trying to find my mojo, but have a couple of avenues in mind and 2 evening talks I want to attend this month, so moving forward at least.:)

    Welcome.

I'm so sorry about your Gran. I share the fear of that happening to me. It's difficult to think about anything else till you have that sorted. Is there any way you can get the medical view first hand?

We had the same situation with my MIL and it was not a happy outcome once she was taken into a care home - so my DH and I have made living wills and made sure the children have agreed to what we want in a similar situation.

I really don't have any answers except to accept that everything else is on hold till you get this sorted. It will skew your thinking and decisions taken under stress are not a good idea.

Just start a spending diary to help when you feel more like dealing with things. (())
But how can you know what you want till you get what you want and you see if you like it?

Mrs B My OHs mum has alzheimers. It is very difficult for everybody involved except her as she is mostly oblivious to her forgetfulness now. She has very lucid moments but they are usually about the past. Although she always enquires about my big soft dane, seems to be the one thing in the present that she can focus on. She has always loved animals but her OH doesnt so she has never been allowed to have a dog herself.
I am sorry that I cant give much advice. GQ has given you lots of very practical advice. All of which we are working our way through too. The only thing I will say and I say this to OH is that you should not rule out care because you "think" it will upset them. She is probably not aware and so in reality it is the family that is upset by the idea.
Hugs and I hope that you are able to focus on you soon.

    Well HelLoOoOoOoOooooooooo Matrix.

Gosh, I log off for a few days and come back to a zillion requests for the Secret e-book. Its all good and they have been sent. If peeps let me know they are received, its appreciated cos I've had a couple of failure notices, so if you've been waiting for over a week, please shout. And I will re-send..

Wow, now I know we can rattle out the prattle, and talk till the cows come home, but when it comes to the deep, real stuff, we rock also. (Not me) but MrsMoo2U and Groatie Queen, you always post sensible, encouraging and beautiful stuff, others do too, but you both sprang straight to mind.

Hovellady am so relieved that things are slowly moving for you and that you have re-created your birthday as your OWN day. ((((Hugs)))).

MG, as for DS2 asking for his 'cuddle'. Awwwww, that is soooooo like him, and I should know, cos he asked me for a cuddle too. Special little man, as is DS1.

    Welcome back Bitsy, xx

Hugs and mega positive vibes to all who need them, am here always, just not always visible xxxxxxx

I was just surviving, then just 'being' but right now I'm alive and kicking and getting back into the swing of everything again. Feeling good and loving my life. Life with an African Grey Parrot and a Great Dane (and possible dane no 2) is never boring. xx
