Am vibing for you Crickett :) Sorry to read the news about your family, hopefully it will be the best sort of prognosis on both fronts. It's so exciting to have a viewer for the house, I hope they really like it :D

Hmm, mistakes I wouldn't repeat... basically I would have found MSE in my student days and never taken out a student loan. I still haven't started paying it off and it's multiplying at an alarming rate. I know Martin says not to pay it off early, but I would love to be 'properly' debt free.

Yesterday I was diagnosed with low self esteem which has made me mull things over and yes, it is true I do have low self esteem but plans are afoot to realign myself with the more positive person I want to be. How strange I can be positive for other people but not take my own advice..sigh. Anyway onwards and upwards.

Today, I had a row with a recruitment agency and have decided that if their director ever chooses to call me back then I won't be temping for them ever:mad: On a good note, one of the agencies I used to work for back in the day are overjoyed that I am now available for full time work so from Monday I could be working somewhere or at least getting a call back about possible work.

Cricket - you have my sympathies, I used to work in a Uni and in one dept it was my responsibility to check all the expense claims which included travel. I can remember refusing to note down a first class air fare for a research student and only allowed an economy fare. It caused an almighty stink but the view was that his boss had travelled to the same conference on the same flight and had flown economy and as his boss was a prof then in reality all this person could expect was an economy fare. I was a right stickler when it came to applying the rules. Nothing would get past my beady eye:rotfl:

What pitfalls - I would have taken better advice about money that I did have after receiving an out of court settlement, maybe it wouldnt have gone on solicitor fees and debts. If only I hadnt gone out and spent £500 in one go on clothes - I used the excuse that I hadn't brought any really decent clothes in over 10 years which was true I hadn't.:o

I would not have joined a business networking group that cost me well over £600 membership plus the additional costs of breakfast each fortnight - I should have had the confidence from the outset to set up my own networking business.

Still, what is done is done and cannot be undone - however, I have learnt my lesson. Onwards and upwards.

Buy a smaller house and not get stuck with a big mortgage.

And not think "well we can't possibly save enough to avert Armageddon if we get made redundant, so we might as well spend". Because eventually you get frustratingly close to clearing debt and then having the amount you frittered would have made all the difference
It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!

Crickett :) lots and lots of positive vibes for you - even if this isn't the one, there'll be lots and lots now - its the good househunting season - not as big as spring, but still really important.
2023: the year I get to buy a car
  • pitfalls - to think further ahead when buying my ex husband out of our house...

to never have taken that first fateful credit card when I was at uni...

but as above, had I not done these, I would not have been on the journey I am on today :) for all the good/bad that brings!

crickett, best of luck with the viewing :j and thoughts re your family situation, sorry to hear all that.

I am intrigued by Springboard, it does sound really fascinating.

MG I love the story about DS2 at the meeting. I might try that some time myself! :rotfl:

Some positive news - I have landed myself an interview with a recruitment agency on Monday with a view to finding some temporary work, when I explained my experience I was booked in like a shot:cool: Hopefully things are on the up once more.

Crickett : sorry to hear about your parents but great news about the viewing. Will wind up the vibes machine in readiness.

Claire : nice to 'see' you back again.

MG : Did DS2 get his cuddle?

Pitfalls? One that caused me a lot of bother and money was being too trusting. The other has been my dislike of confrontation and lack of confidence, though my family and friends would all say I come across as confident but I'd say it's good acting. I'm much better at that now and will complain with the best of them.

I think paralysis by analysis has held me back many times, but that is a by-product of a lack of confidence.

Another thought is that I've done better when I've followed my heart rather than what I 'should' do. I delayed my progress through life by trying to conform - fortunately, I realised all this fairly fast. If I hadn't, I might well have been quite bitter now as I wouldn't have had the adventures I've managed to fit in.
But how can you know what you want till you get what you want and you see if you like it?
