greenbee - what has happened to the queen of broccoli? You will be living on toast next :(

I have lots (a good 10lbs) of very ripe eating plums that need something doing with them, very little room in the freezer, only a few pounds of sugar and I refuse to break into next months money as I have to get used to lving on a massively reduced income. I do have a dehydrator ready for the main apple crop next month, but not sure dried plums appeal.

I have 26 eggs from the ever obliging hens if that helps with suggestions!

I will NEVER live on toast... The crumbs would drive me nuts! Although I did have scrambled egg on toast for breakfast as I'm using up bread from when my dad was here. Lunch and supper were left over tomato tart. I think I'm just too exhausted :( and work is back to normal next week, all week (and I'm expecting the really bad side effects from the pills to turn up in the next few days too, so need to get a grip and stop feeling sorry for myself!). I think a bath and an early night are probably called for soon and then I just have to hope I find some energy to do the things I need to tomorrow!

Dried plums would be great. Yes, prunes are dried plums but you get other types too. They can either be rehydrated and cooked or used in baking or in muesli. I was going to suggest elvas plums but those use greengages and have to be soaked in syrup for 6 weeks!

I tried to palm some off on the neighbours last year but they all have plum trees too. Still eating plum chutney and jam from last year - but more chutney makes some sense if I can find enough onions. I have pickling vinegar though. The plum sauce looks good too, as does plum cake - did that last year and Dusty suggested a nice oatmeal one as well. I have to freeze cake though as there is only me who eats it but it will do me nicely for work packed lunches. I think there is a packet of half eaten marzipan lurking in DS1s snack box that could be incorporated in a cake. I didn't know about plums/prunes thanks - must check if anyone likes them and try that too.

Alcohol isn't an option - I would have to buy it and I am determined not to go over.

greenbee - I know you dont eat toast :p I on the other hand am busy making slow rise bread so that there is some for toast in the morning.

Glad to hear it's finally sorted out Tenmah. Huge relief for DD.

I am cream crackered! I've re-filled the car with treasures for another car boot, washing and rehung curtains in two rooms, hoovered the bedroom and it's immaculate. Three more bin bags filled too :D And two for the charity shop :D

With plums and eggs in the house, I would go for plum clafoutis. Mmmm, golden and puffy and delicious, and cheap to make. Lots of recipes online for it, often made with cherries (expensive) but works well with plums too.
If you have a talent, use it in every which way possible. Don't hoard it. Don't dole it out like a miser. Spend it lavishly like a millionaire intent on going broke.

That's great news tenmah - now she can really start making a plan for the future - hope you both have a really great weekend.

    Before I forget - Yesterday's challenge:

First thing to do today is to plan your "treat" for when you have finished - then grab your timer as you are going to tackle this 15 minutes at a time.

Clear some space to work - and grab a cuppa and some motivating music.

Now get that box of paperwork - time to divide and conquer. Start dividing up the paperwork in any way that seems sensible. Just divide - you don't need to read, organise or action yet.

    I had

    Personal - Me
    Personal - Kids
    Business
    Household
    Projects
    To be "actioned" pile

So the first sort was into 6 piles - it already felt like I could cope better.

All the piles except the action pile were slipped into a plastic file for later - you will be sorting and filing each one of these piles each day for 15 minutes until they are gone.

With the action file I split the papers into - invoices to raise, letters to write, calls to make and online/responses. I have allocated 1 hour each day next week to do one little chunk of this work to clear it once and for all - instead of jumping around doing all sorts of chores I have chunked the "invoice run", the "phone calls" to be done in different sessions - Much easier to keep making calls when you have the phone already in your hand.

DS2 went to see the Smurfs yesterday and I produced packet of "Smurf Blue" Magic Pants for him to wear this morning.

He is now wearing a pair and we have had our first trip to the loo for a wee - so today shall mostly be escorting a little person for endless bathroom breaks (fingers crossed for me everyone)

So pleased you've had good news Tenmah.

Spent Casualty and a Judge John Deed starting to wade through paperwork last night and have a wash basket full of stuff to recycle this morning. Good news is that the car insurances aren't due till October (I thought it was end of August) but that is when my car tax is due.

Dh and kids are all out today so I am going to get started on school work - see ya later
