You may remember that I asked you for positive vibes recently for my daughter who had a DLA medical. Today we got the letter - and she has been awarded High rate mobility and high rate care indefintely.

I cannot tell you how much this means to her. If anyone had seen us when she opened the letter (we were in the car at the time) they would have thought we had received bad news as we were both crying our eyes out!

So thank you for the vibes that came our way.

Great news, in fact, fantastic. I really like the 'indefinitely' clause. Give her a big (though gentle) hug from me.
But how can you know what you want till you get what you want and you see if you like it?

Tenmah, that is fabulous news, congratulations to your daughter, and I hope the DLA will go some way to making life a little easier.

I enjoyed my wee treat of breakfast out - child's portion in local garden centre cafe, free cuppa tea (had voucher) so cost a grand total of £2! Just proves that occasional treats don't have to cost loads!
If you have a talent, use it in every which way possible. Don't hoard it. Don't dole it out like a miser. Spend it lavishly like a millionaire intent on going broke.

Thank you everyone. It has been great to see her with a big smile on her face for most of the day.

That's great news tenmah, not that your daughter NEEDS them but that being in need she GOT them (I really need the care component as well but I am scared of losing the mobility section so I haven't applied!)

That is what is so wrong about the system. People shouldn't have to be scared to apply for something they are entitled to.

What my daughter has had to go through to get this has been unbelievable and so stressful, which exacerbates her condition.

The process needs looking at but all they are worried about are the people who are fraudently claiming and the genuine people seem to get overlooked.

That's great news tenmah. I hope she will now be able to focus on looking after herself and working out a lifestyle that works for her. I just wish all the people claiming fraudulently realised (or cared about) the impact on those who really need it... Including the fact that it means there is less money to go to the people who need it.

After the conversation earlier this week about iron, I think I need to get my GP to do a blood test and check ferritin too. I'm totally exhausted today, consistent with anaemia and although I'm taking supplements I'm pretty sure the fact that I haven't bothered to eat properly for the last few days won't have helped. I think I need to do some very careful meal planning and stick religiously to the plans. Although right now I'd rather just take a handful of pills instead of eating...
  • Oh fantastic news Tenmah! I'm so pleased for both of you - it must have been such a relief to get the letter :D

greenbee - what has happened to the queen of broccoli? You will be living on toast next :(

I have lots (a good 10lbs) of very ripe eating plums that need something doing with them, very little room in the freezer, only a few pounds of sugar and I refuse to break into next months money as I have to get used to lving on a massively reduced income. I do have a dehydrator ready for the main apple crop next month, but not sure dried plums appeal.

I have 26 eggs from the ever obliging hens if that helps with suggestions!

Plum upside down cake, plum chutney, dried plums are prunes so I'm sure they are worth a go in the dehydrator ... trade them for sugar/vinegar with neighbours?
