Morning Livvy, did you fnid lots of useful winter tips?

After I got off here last night I went down stairs for a drink and it was quite cold in the hallway (the front door isnt the best!) so I got out the draught (dont know how to spell that!) excluder!! xx

  • Morning Mummy,
I did get lots of tips thanks. I think the most important one, which I hadn't thought about, was to get my car ready and to put a blanket in the boot and a tool kit. I am going to stock up on de-icer and make sure the water is full for the windscreen.

The other thing which I didn't think of was to buy dishwasher salt for the paths to dissolve the snow. I am going to make lots of lists...I love lists!!!!

It was cold this morning when I woke up and I couldn't get out of bed. I really need to fathum out the timer for the heating...will get the instructions out tonight and have a go. Good Idea about the draught excluder, my grandparents used to have a snake thing that they used to put at the bottom of their doors...could do with that myself, I bet they still have it because they never throw anything away.

    xx

    Hi LivvyLoo,

Hope you don't mind me popping by your thread :o but noticed you were with E.ON for your energy.

Just a couple of tips to help keep your usage down as much as poss over the coming months (it sounds like your already doing a good job)

Have you got an energy monitor? this is free, if you haven't you can get one by selecting the option via your online account.

Also have a look at the interactive house on the website there is some good info on there. You can also request a booklet called 100 ways to save energy, I've found this pretty useful :D

If you need anything more from me, just let me know.

    Helena :)

Hi Livvy, glad you got lots of tips. The car is one thing I never really think about until the last minute! We always have blankets in the back for the girls though!! xx

  • Morning Diary,

Thank you Helena for those tips, I had actually looked at the interactive house when I logged onto my account on Tuesday and I also have an energy monitor although I haven't managed to set it up yet! I will definintely request a booklet as I am keen to find out where else I can save energy. Thanks

I was pretty pleased with myself yesterday, I did two frogs (ha ha, got that off the OS board). I set my heating on a timer...took me ages because I had to set every day seperately and then the blooming hot water too, but this morning I woke up to a lovely warm house.

Then when I was over the road at my friends house last night I noticed what looked like the rag and bone van outside, so I caught up with him and asked if he would take my old freezer away. It turns out he was a scrap metal merchant and had a viable business so I felt better about him seeing the contents of my garage....should have given him OH's bikes ha ha.

My task tonight is to bleed the radiators.

eBay is still doing well, I have 6 items definitely selling now so I'm at £30 already. There are lots of watchers too, so fingers crossed its a good week.

I'm off work tomorrow so looking forward to taking DD out for the day, if its nice we might go to the local farm as she loves seeing the animals, will have to put lots of layers on though as last time I was freezing.

I dreamt about a tidal wave last night, it was coming for us and I was running with DD to get away from it. I have Googled it this morning (I Google everything) and it said...'Tidal waves often appear in our dreams when are under a lot of pressure or when significant change is occurring. They may be a an indication that we feel a little overwhelmed, that maybe we fear we won’t be able to cope or adjust with what we see in our own future.' Thought this was a bit spooky given my current situation with OH.

Right, I am off to check my accounts and update my spreadsheet.

    Have a good day everyone.

    xx

  • OK just a quick update on my DIY antics. Bled radiators but no luck on 2 back bedrooms so I Googled the problem (told you I Google everything) and the DIY website said the pin inside the valve is probably stuck and needed oiling. So I took the valve off and sprayed WD40 and hopefully tomorrow we should have heat...not testing it now because am boiling from testing after bleeding!!!! Anyway I have oiled the squeeky door too. Apparently Plumbers charge £200 for their heating services, think Im in the wrong job.

I decided to get my staple wardrobe ready for winter so I bought a black cardi to go with all my summer clothes...now they are winter clothes too!!!! I am so pleased with my buy, also bought some shoe boots in the sale in ASOS again ready for winter and didn't pay for delivery as they are not urgent so got snail mail. A year ago I would have bought so many more clothes (on credit cards) and then found I had nothing to go with them so bought more and I would have also paid for urgent delivery...I am learning YEY at last, its only taken me from the age of 18 until now 36!!!!

Got a letter through the door today off someone really interested in a house on my street and asked people to call them if they were thinking of selling. You know, I know I need to do it to move on from OH but it makes me sad because I know once the house is sold there is no going back...not sure if I am quite ready yet as its a big step but I think on the other hand its a golden opportunity. Ah the decisions.

  • :j Well done on the DIY front, I'm getting a bit better at it myself.

The house thing will be a massive decision and it all depends on what 'stage' you are at in your seperation, but as they say, when one door closes, another one opens :) Could be what you need?
    I'll get there!
  • Aw I know you're right. We haven't lived together for 6 months...was a trial seperation ha. I know I need to move on but just makes me sad. But hey nothing can be as sad as the year I've just had. Maybe I need a push through that open door. x
