  • Hi SH,
Aw, thats nice that some one said you glowed in your dress, it is probably the right colour for you. DM is well into her colours and apparently if you do it right you can match up all the clothes in your wardrobe to make different outfits...a bit like Goks capsule wardrobe. I have problems doing that, as for me to think something goes I need to match the colours exactly. Was thinking today though that I am going to wear the skirt I bought for work with boots and tights with a nice jumper on a weekend to get more wear out of it. Its good that you know when the sales are now so you can pick from the best stuff.

Had a stroke of luck when I took shoes to cobblers, he fits watch straps. So on Friday when I pick shoes up I can get watch done too.

Paid a years car tax today as opposed to 6 months and saved a tennar.

Oooh SH I love teal! Your so lucky that's your colour. Mine is apparently red!

Livvy I was giggling at how you felt in the jewllers that's me all over. I think I'm doing really well being all frugal and will try and recycle an outfit and the minute I'm in public I feel all shabby and want to go home!
My DD pushchair has a wheel that squeaks every so often but I'm not buying her a new one, OH goes mad!
My new motto is make do and mend, I refuse to spend cash when it's not essential!

Have you tried spraying the pram wheel with WD-40? I should think that will do the trick, just either do it outside or on some paper to protect flooring as obviously its greasy.
  • Hi Livvy

You sound like you are doing so well and in control of things financially. And I am assuming you are communicating with OH more rather than brushing things under the carpet for an easy life because things seem to be improving.

    Take care

  • Hi Everyone,
Its good that you have found your colour SH, you will have to get variations of the same colour or things that go so you can mix and match.

Thats funny Yellow, my pushchair has a wheel that kept slowly coming off. You can take them off to get them in the car but once it went back on it would slowly come loose and I would have to give it a kick to get it back on again. OH has put it back on with brute force, so now I don't take it off at all as it has fixed it for the time being.

KM, aw I am trying with OH but its so difficult as there are so many things that get on my nerves, its like he thinks I will fall for him without him having to try at all, and thats just not the case.

OK I have a huge dilemma...when I come on this website I see people making over payments on their loans and seeing their debt falling every month and I am jealous. From January I will be in a position to make over payments on my loan, however...if OH an I split and it goes sour then he may be nasty and say that we need to put all the debt in a pot and pay it with the house profit.

If you remember, I have paid my half of all the debt but there is still a loan existing in joint names (but he still pays the monthly sum and he drives the car it was used to pay for), so therefore not only could I get stung to pay half of that off again but making over payments on my loan could also do him a huge favour as it would mean less for him to pay back too and all my effort would be halved.

I have money hidden away already and once my holiday budget reaches £1,000 then I will move some of that to secret location and also I am hoping to receive something for PPI claim which I too will hide. Am I doing right just sitting on it and saving up until I know for definite whats happening with OH or should I be paying down my debt with it...which method (saving and paying or paying each month) is more beneficial to reducing debt. I think I am doing the right thing but I would so love to reduce my debt with that money.

    Glad thats off my chest!

Today should be an NSD day, I also noticed that in my car pot I have an extra tennar just saved up from 'Save the Change' and I didn't even notice it going.

  • I think you have to adapt the 'over paying' to your own personal circumstances and in this case you sound like you want to protect yourself financially for personal reasons so that is a good option for you.

The point is that you are saving and making cuts and getting the best price for things and you are in control of your money so you are doing everything that is right for you and your future financial security. As your savings go up you are always in a position to pay it off the debt at any point should you 'choose' to but you still have the safety net there should you need it.

Do what makes you feel safe mentally as well as practically.

hi LL - I would have a safety net any day if I could.... Whose name is the car in? We're buying a new car which is in my name but I am also the registered keeper on it (and our other car!). I have also signed up to buying a new suite but we have a CC in OH's name that got about £5.5K debt on it. He has some savings in just his name... but £2K deposit is on the car in my name.... We've been married 20 years but mentally - especially since joining MSE - I am very aware of his and her debts and try to keep them balanced....

Are your finances linked in credit scoring terms or are they separate? You could be liable for the car loan even if you split and even if he kept the car....would be my limited understanding... I could be wrong....

    Hi LivvyLoo,

I might have missed this but is there no way he can either take your name off the loan, or alternatively change it for a new loan (i,e settle ot by taking a new loan in his name?). The only other thing I can suggest is similar to a seperation agreement. This is not a legally binding document but its as close as. It clearly sets out both of your intentions and the agreement you have reached re the finances. f things got difficult if you seperated then you have that to fall back on.

Hopefully it wont come to this though.

    Hi LL
I totally agree with what your doing, I also am trying to build my own little buffer that OH doesn't know about
At the moment I have about 700 in there I also pay into shares (maturing next year currently worth about 4k) and am due to get some money after Xmas (about 3.5k but he thinks it 2k).
I can't help it, I'm very secretive about my money hence why he doesn't even know about the 16.5k loan!!!!!
I don't know if I could be open about my money if I tried, think it's partly down to me always being in a pickle with money and not wanting to dissapoint people. I've trained myself not to even mention money.
