My last few months have been quite good but i generally do well over the spring/summer and then my wins go downhill for some reason. I agree OP that it does seem like the newbies and the same people winning all the time and it does get you down but like they say you have to be in it to win it. The amount you are doing each day I don't know why your not winning as much. I still doing over 100 a day but its a struggle. I don't find as much time to post comps now than I use to between FB, twitter and the board there is just to much to do. Once you have finished all three you have to start the whole process again. Driving me mad!!!

That is what makes me mad too, there are so many competitions I am entering and I am not winning.
No you're not a vegetarian if you eat any animal or fish, so do not insult genuine veggies by calling yourself one!

Thanks to everyone who posts competitions. You are the stars of the board :T:j:T

The majority of comps are a quick form fill. Very few involve skill/effort, so winning a non skill/effort comp is down to one thing only and that is luck.

I started comping in 2004 and had my first big win not long after. 2005 to 2009 were all excellent years. I probably only enter roughly 10-20 a day as I work full time so am limited in my own time. I also only enter for things I want, have no kids so leave all kids stuff, don't bother with DVDs, books, small packets of food etc.

Completely different story for 2010 and same for this year. My luck has certainly not been in at all as not won much. Only decent win this year is a wii fit (which has been one of most well used prizes and helped me lose 10 pounds :D) Mind you that has eaten into my comping time as well

Wouldn't you just love to have an insight into all these different promoters and how they run the comps and more inmportantly how they pick the winners

As others have said, many more people are entering comps now as I read on here and other forums. More comps are now on Twitter and Facebook but I am personally getting a bit fed up with these now as I cannot read my genuine interests on News Feed as they are clogged up with these Companies trying to sell their stuff. Don't want to delete them neither as may miss a comp?

    Oh it's a hard life being a comper :(

I took a long break from comping from December to May, but I can already feel the difference compared to last year in terms of frequency of wins - it's definitely a lot lower. I have no idea if there's less around or what, but I don't have a comping Facebook so that limits me quite a bit as that seems to have taken off a lot this year.

    Anyway slightly OT but:
Those of you that find comps and post them, where do you find them? I sometimes get them in email newsletters but when I check they are already on the site, presumably cause a lot of us get the same newsletters and I am very slow compared to others :D

Well now - Here is a loaded question.

Do you think that all these comping websites, M.S.E, Loquax, Compers News, Chatterbox etc encourage promotors to put on more competitions for us or do you think overall they just reduce everybody's chances of winning a competition unless you are prepared to enter "hundreds" of comps every day?
There will probably be many members on here that have never even considered that because so many of them only became "compers" in the last year or two.

My thoughts are that in the days before the internet a comper had to put in most of the effort themselves such as finding the entry form, researching the answers, sending it off etc.
A dozen entries a week might have been a good effort in those days but the success rate was usually very much higher.

I must be really honest here....I've won another comp today and feel a little worried about putting up my thanks as don't want people to think 'Oh, she's won again and I haven't won...'
I'm wondering whether this may be why some of the older compers dont post their thanks...because I know alot of older compers who do still win, so I dont think its just the newbies...
But I fear this thread has turned quite negative.
Comping is a hobbie, sometimes it pays off, sometimes it doesnt.
Spreadiing lucky dust to the people that arn't winning and hope that something comes your way soon xxxxx

I think you will always get that. I have sat here looking at some people's signature and think "Ooh you jammy thing", but I'm not bitter (jealous yes lol) I have had a brilliant 6 months and hope it carries on. I would like everyone to win something, but, as we know, it doesn't work like that.

As you said, comping is a hobbie (could you imagine if we were paid for it ) and people should remember that. The majority of the comps I enter are free, so all it has cost me is time. And thanks to that, I have won a few things that I wouldn't be able to get the kiddies otherwise :o
    Thanks to all posters :A

I often wonder if opting out of the spam and things companies want to send you hampers your chance of winning. What does everyone else think?
Wins for 2013: Cafetiere (£40), Mangajo Drinks, Alan Partridge goodies
  • I've been comping regularly since late last year and have only won a prize which was one out of 950 ...
I tend not to read the 'I won ...' area as it's a bit depressing - but I don't begrudge anyone saying they have won and thanking the OP. Someone has to win competitions so don't feel bad about it :)
