Does anyone think......

Hi, sorry for a bit of a moan (will probably regret this and may get it deleted... sorry not feeling mentally great!)
But do you think some companies get fed up of seeing the same name come up, it seems that all the (sorry to use this word) newbies seem to win most of the decent prizes, not all but most, do you think it's because of the name, and email address, I know they are meant to be picked at random, and I know there are more compers and less prizes, but compared to my first 6 months/year, I have won practically nothing! few books, dvd's, cd's etc...
Please don't go mad at me, but this is how I feel, and I am sure others do, and I'm sure I will get the oh don't worry it will be your turn again, etc..
Just wanted to know what others thought?

    Hello RatGirl
I still think/hope everyone has a fair chance. Looking at the end of month lists of wins some people continue to win lots and they are not newbies.

    Hi RatGirl

I have to say that the same thought has crossed my mind in the past, i.e. that some particularly unusual names may be recognised, but I don't think that's actually how it works. My name is unusual (just the one when I search 192, far less google!) and there are certainly some MSErs with distinctive names, however some of them are also consistent winners (some have won ITV comps more than once, for example).

I think it's just that wins do come in 'waves'! I had loads of fab wins for a 4 or 5 month spell last year and then a period of quiet, but I figure that's the nature of comping.

For various reasons I'm just back on MSE after taking a break from comping for a few months, so perhaps I'll regain 'newbie' status again, or just activate another lucky break! :)

I find it is either newbies or the same members who win the big prizes, that's what it looks like from the I won list. They are obviously luckier than other people.
No you're not a vegetarian if you eat any animal or fish, so do not insult genuine veggies by calling yourself one!

Thanks to everyone who posts competitions. You are the stars of the board :T:j:T

Maybe it's also that the newbies are keener and enter more comps, and the bigger longstanding winners are those that spend a long time entering each day.
I've had a couple of £50 wins from the same site in the past, so they obviously didn't mind the same name again, but I do find that my comp entering is quite variable depending on what else is going on, and if I've hit a bad patch (this year I had no wins at all for 5 months) I enter less as I think what's the point. So I do think it's all a bit swings and roundabouts.
I've only won a couple of things this year, but I know I've entered a lot less, and had a couple of months with RSI where I was hardly on the computer.

I enter the same amount as I did from the start, haven't had any breaks, can't even win anything on facebook, and enter about 25 ish on there a day.

I stopped putting my wins in my sig - I was getting huge feelings of inadequacy!

Seriously though, I suspect there may also be an element of a lot more people entering comps, and companies giving less away - there's a definite lack of satnav comps which is one of the things on my hitlist. Just a bit less to go round maybe, and enthusiastic newer people/bigger winners being more likely to post on the I won board. I know I'm less likely to post a win if it's a book, rather than something bigger than I used to be.

:) There are so many reasons, some comps ive entered say that u can only win once a month...my friend won something from a radio site and now shes been excluded from winning for 3 months...then theres the peeps that are more committed to entering and spend hours and hours entering ( so well deserve the wins for their effort), then theres the peeps that dont win for a while and, as commented, think whats the point so kinda give up, then theres the sites that peeps subscribe to that enter them automatically into every comp ( for a subsciption fee ) without them having to do anything...so I learnt recently .
It's better to keep your mouth shut and give the impression that you're stupid than to open it and remove all doubt :)

I disagree. There was someone on here recently who won 2 itv comps in the same month! ITV didn't seem to have a problem having them win a second time or discount them because they had already won. It's probably just newbies luck - which skipped me by when I first started lol! Took 6 months to win BB tickets then another year to win a wii. Nothing in between - not even a tin of spam!
