i know of lots of compers who have stopped posting about wins not everyone posts here about wins so we can only assume at the end of the daybest win in 2011:eek: 4 nights in Las Vegas
2011 wins £8,752.000 -
I'm sorry if I've annoyed anyone, but believe me I never meant to, I'm not after a big win, just the odd little thing would be nice, and the not looking forward to Christmas is nothing to do with comps or winning, just a personal thing, I love entering comps, and I agree Mandy it's prob that the reg's don't post about there wins, I tend not to but do pm the op to thank them, sorry again to all xx0

I havent really been posting about the wins Ive had: I wouldnt say im a newbie proper: I went through an intense stage for a few months then a year of the odd few a week. Now I am entering intensively I am winning stuff. Not mega amounts by some standard but I know others will think it is a lot and is in some way 'unfair'. Ive been there.
The wins Ive had are some on FB some on twitter, some from emails I receive, mostly use loquax with the odd one taken from on here. I always thank here. I have tried to post comps but they are always here already: even ones that just dropped into my email box. The comps are posted like the speed of light! I take my hat off to regular posters who post comps I dont know if you even have time to enter any!
I dont enter:
trips to london ( I live here)
trips to anywhere that Ive no interest in going to
sporting gear
anything to do with boats, climbing or other specialist hobbies
Music I dont like
Books I dont want
food items I dont like or couldnt gift
naff clothing or jewelry that wont suit me or someone close to me
any car repair type stuff
Much tech stuff
Baby stuff/ kids stuff
plants, flowers and garden stuff
I have spent a phenomenal amount of time entering which I enjoy doing but it is time consuming. That said, Im not too well at the moment and am pretty much housebound with insomnia so I have lots of opportunity! No kids and yes, my house is a tip.
its not my name that always come up, but hey! I dont mind. they probably put in more time than me. I agree with others that there is no skill involved in 90% of comps: much is just registering your details.
( unless its voting competitions which I have a major problem with)
I have had a 2 big wins both off FB.
I will do the monthly round up I guess but Im not into the idea of reporting every win, I know that there will be people out there who feel sad seeing other peoples wins and I empathise with it 100% as I have been there. I have been envious of those winning supermarket vouchers when I've got nothing in the fridge or no Christmas presents for anyone for example.:o
That said I love reading about peoples wins on here and on FB but that's because I'm doing ok now and we have food in the cupboards.
Thats my 2ps worth :)really interesting thread thank you to everyone for your contributions
:T:beer: Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -
Ok.... so am really sorry to bump this again, but hmmmmmm, just checking the IWIWIW section again, and the same thoughts are there, all quite newbies, winning the big cash/holiday/electrical, ect comps, am struggling so much to win anything at the moment, spending 5-7 hours a day, nearly 400+ comps a day, (dailys, advents, etc) feeling really sorry for myself, not looking forward to xmas at all, probably all in my head, but.....
hi rg
way i see it once the comps are posted on here they get posted all over the other comps sites & not only everyone who logs in here enters (if they want) but also thousands of lurkers who enter the comps every day who aren't registered on here, so,
there's thousands enters the comps which bring down the odds of winningfor every one 'thanks & entered' tick there's proberly
40 times plus that don't thank/log in etc,
again, reducing the odds to win, so you're not on your own entering loads with only a slim chance of winning,
but, you have to keep at it, i won a comp that had over 6,000 entries (so they told me) so you have to keep going
i don't post my wins any more through personel choice due to some 'not very nice' pm's i used to receive which were childish & full of jealousy, i now pm the op of the comp who posted the comp/answer etc to thank them,
sending you lots of fairy dust to keep you going xxxplease be a responsible pet owner & spay/neuter your pets, too many strays & not enough homes for them sadly.0 -
everyone who enters has the same chance of winning than anyone else (unless of course its a voting comp or one of the ones where you have to be at the top of a leader board) so i tend to avoid those ones
i have to be honest here and say i do get jealous of people when they have big wins and i get something like a boomerang haha0 -

you're okay chick - I'm feeling the same right now. I wish I could be one of those people who find IWIWIW inspiring - it depresses the hell out of me. It also frequently leaves me seething as I see the same people winning all the big stuff over and over again.........some folk are just plain lucky when it comes to comps. Or they cheat:rotfl:
Like you, I'm doing about 8 hours each day and, although I'm happy with my £20 takeaway voucher this month, it doesn't really compare to some people who have already won a laptop, tv, holiday and shopping vouchers etc etc all in 10 days.
My advice is to stay out of IWIWIW and concentrate on boggling, bruxing ratty babies (this is my first rat-less year for 6 years, so sad)
It's fine for people to say "get a life" but some of us don't have a choice. For a lot of folk on these boards, comping and the social community of compers are all that we've got going for us as we're more or less housebound by illness etc.

I'm a newbie, been doing this since August, every day, and haven't won anything yet! From a newbies point of view it often feels like it's the established members that always seem to be the lucky ones, winning laptops and iPads and holidays - it's all down to luck and think, how many people don't post because they haven't won? There's a lot of people winning things (how do you win multiple ITV comps, lucky so and sos
) but a much less vocal majority who aren't winning things, but don't post because there's no reason to!
At least this is what I keep telling myself, one day I'll get that iPad/ITV/laptop win0 -
I'll tell you what REALLY gets on my nerves though - "creative" competitions (mostly on Facebook) where the winning entries are utter dross. Usually misspelled and gramatically incorrect - but also about as creative as as a slug eating a stamp.
I don't begrudge the winners - I just don't think the competition promoters should claim to "judge" the entries when they clearly have just picked a name at random.Living with Lupus is like juggling with butterflies0 -
Hi guys, I just re read my post and it does say "get a life", this was not meant to insult or offend anyone, I meant just carry on with your comping but chill a little, enjoy other hobbies/reading etc, I speak a little from experience, a couple of years ago I was lucky to win £1000 on a pepsi comp-enterered my ringpull, didnt expect to win and that was it addicted to winning, well entering comps! This will sound ungrateful but at the time a grand wasnt enough and I was chasing a big bucks win, Real deal or Daybreak!
Well I was well and truly hooked, almost addicted, I did not feel "right" if I didnt enter my comps, I spent that much time entering comps other things in life got neglected, husband, housework, exercise, socialising, etc.
Spending hours at a keyboard-drives you mad after a while.
I decided to take a break from comping, and feel miles better for it, now dont get me wrong I still want a weekend in New York and enter the odd comp now prob five a week or so, but i dont feel desperate to win anymore, I think comping is a bit like gambling-chasing the win and very addictive, All I meant to say is chill a bit enjoy life, and a win is a bonus.0 -
