  • I could not comment on people being unfairly sanctioned, an officer of the DWP gathers the information and then it is up to a Decision Maker to use legislation to determine if that person should have a sanction imposed.
Not in reality. Usually (from New Deal experience), the Decision Maker takes the advisors word as gospel, and it's down to the claimant to fight the sanction by review or by appeal.
Over the last 6 months in the area I am in I would say about a quarter of those into work are over 60.
    Care to quantify that statement?

i think my response was to a claim that over 60 people were found a job while on a course. it wasnt anything to do with the number of people over the age of 60 finding work.

"Over the last six months i would say that in the area i work in about a quarter of those who have gone into work are over 60."

Could that be anything to do with the fact that six months ago people over 60 became able to recieve tax credits if they got a job for 16 hours a week.
I spotted this info on another thread on here yesterday. Someone put up a link to the HMRC site with the information.

Makes me wonder how many of these jobs were full time or with a liveable wage.

i dont see how the employer benefits from tax credits being paid to those working 16 hours. reducing the number of hours someone works from full time to part time would just mean they need to employ more people to get the same amount of work done and they do have to pay a wage for each hour worked. paying tax credits to someone working 16 hours just has the affect of making part time work more appealing.

No that was you misreading what I had wrote,I did not claim that over 60 people had found a job whilst on a course but there was quite a good success rate with 60+ customers into work (as in age 60+)

That may seem the case but there is legislation they have to follow and decisions do get allowed as well,so that is not taking the advisers word for it is it?

And how would you like the statement quantifying?

Possibly but the original debate was whether they should stay on JSA or claim Pension Credits if applicable.
