I am claiming bank charges but they total over £4500 so I always said that if successful in my claim they would not form part of my challenge total. But I don't object to anyone else using theirs.
The idea is to raise additional by way of a kick up the backside and focusing on it, so whichever way you do this, however much you make, and whatever you use the money for - paying debts, saving for holiday, Christmas etc - is fine with me.
The only rule in my book is that you end up with more cash than you started with!!!
Keep up the good work - everyone seems to have made a good start!Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. They just wear better shoes. (Maud Van de Venne)Life begins at the end of your comfort zone (Neale Donald Walsch)0 -
I don't think I can do this challenge if everything we get money from has to be done just for this challenge. I've collected loose change for years, I've been an Avon rep for months and I've done cashback sites for a wee while now.
I guess I'll just have to change the rules to suit me and do my own personal challenge instead!OD Girls On TourBarcelona 2008 - Dublin 20090 -
the reason i have included my bank charges is because i didnt have them before and did it for this challenge it didnt cost me anything not even the price of a stamp cos i dealt wholly with my local branch and in the end they sent me preaddressed stamped envelopes
we are each doing a personal challenge it is not a competition there is no single prize only the fact that hopefully we will all be financially better off as individuals i like to think i play an active part in this thread and share any knowledge so others also gain from my experience if me adding my bank charges motivates mr a n other to do the same then absolutely fantastic i am unable to work so therefore i cant do overtime like some others of you can so i am doing everything else i can to possible raise money and include how i did it both here and on a blog i started to show what i am doing i perhaps have more time on my hands and therefore will try to include things that i find easy and quick to do and things that i find more time consuming so others with little time can concentrate on those im not out to 'win' just to make as much money as i can from nothing one of the reasons im heading for gold is because i knew i was claiming charges back
basically everyone you need to concentrate on your own money for nothing challenges because the whole idea is a personal challenge unless of course we are pooling our gains and buying a villas to timeshare between us!!!
so ive shown my reasons for adding my charges and wish everyone good luck ....now for hsbc!!! and tax refund letter....and ebay...and surveys...and ...amazon...and downgrading shopping...and checking my utility bills...and mystery shopping...and enjoying the motivation from you all to do this
bye for now

Sorry to be negative - I'm simply trying to be fair here.:D

I think personally we should NOT include bankcharge refunds our totals but add them in brackets afterwards or simply increase your challenge by the amount you have got - say you were going for the £1007 challenge and you got £500 refunded them make your challenge total £1507. I don't want to upset anyone here because basically any money you get into your pocket is great and we all need a good lift to help with debts. But..... I also feel that it's not fair on those who either haven't reclaimed or may have already had their money or those who have claimed but don't want to include it. The challenge is to make more money than you normaly do.
I haven't heard from Jet yet but my honest and I feel fair opinion is not to include them in original total but to either bracket them so people can see you have got them because it is still a good thing you have got the money back or to simply increase your total by the amount you have recieved.
How does that sound????
( I sit here pensively now waiting for the backlash!!!!)
I'm only at home as I'm waiting to see doc as I think my son has shingles again!!!!! so don't bite plz)

This is why there is such a dilemma with the bank charges thing. I hope that help and may inspire you to find other ways of making extra dosh to satisfy your challenge. You could for instance take on another couple of roads just for the challenge and count any extra profit just from those roads and join new cashback sites? How does that sound?

Just out of curiosity, im having one of those days...
During the duration of the challenge, if i earn £400, can i pay that off a debt there and then, or is the point to wait till the 6 months is up and divvy it up then?
I think it would be more benefical to our situation to pay it as i earn it and keep a track of it that way.
Sorry if its a dumb-!!! question, mid week brain freeze!!0 -

You can pay as you go, you dont need to save the money till July then pay off your debt.

I'm happy not to include the charges if all agree, it seems that some people could reach their target by reclaiming their charges alone. I'm happy to go with the general consensus of everyone else.0 -

I was never counting my salary but I had been doing everything I could think of since joining this site to earn extra cash to put toward my debt. I guess I thought I could just continue (well, with an extra push!) what I had been doing. Avon is mostly done via work so no extra roads and the cashback site is the best I've found and I don't spend enough (thanks to MSE!) to warrant using another one.

am doing an ingoings and outgoings of my challenge money so i can still reach (theres optimism for you) my target but still use the money as i go along hopefully using it towards getting my house sorted it needs plastering decorating new kitchen etc
so in the same way you can still pay off debts or do whatever you want with the money you gain and still do the challenge
wouldnt be money saving otherwise would it????
you might even save interest on the debts!!Save 12k in 2015 member 187. £62.50/60000
