Hello
My mums just realised shes had a massive £31.00 a month taken from her account, she hardly uses her phone so doesnt normally check the bank the see whats been taken (paperless bills also) Shes only on a low contract from 3, £13 or something to that effect.
I had a quick look on here today and noticed the scam, Ive called the number and cancelled her subscription, Ive also sent an email to KKO as stated above. 3 are useless, told us to call back on Monday to discuss but there is nothing they can do.
I hate stuff like this, my mums too scared to even use her phone now. Fingers crossed and I'll keep you posted.0 -
Unfortunately there are to-many pointless 'one post' whinges on this thread. The sad truth is if people bleat and act like sheep the Networks will fleece them like sheep.
It's no co-incidence that Networks refer to their customers as being 'owned'.0 -

pointless posts? sorry, I didn't realise there were rules on here letting people know you'd had a bad experience and sharing your stories.
I came for advice and to let people know I too had experienced similar. not to be told off for posting "once"0 -

Sorry, I wasn't meaning to annoy people and my comment was not directed at you or anyone in particular. I was just making a comment based on frustration with what I was reading.
I sincerely hope you get the problem with your mother's phone sorted.
I genuinely believe that unless people start working together to put pressure (contact your MP's and media for example) on the authorities (Government/Ofcom for example) then this type of theft from customer's phone credit and bank accounts will be allowed to continue.
The Network 3 is the only one in the revenue chain that has access to their customers phone credit and bank accounts.
Who is committing the theft?
Who is allowing the theft?
Who is profiting from the theft?
Who is protecting the thieves?0 -
Quick question - whilst home, if im connected to wifi and Ive supposedly downloaded this cr*p would KKO not charge to my BT bill? Just checked my bill and what do ya know, not only have they done my mum but I have a nice £18 charge there too, apparently Ive downloaded 4 of these thing all on Monday nights shortly before midnight.
Ive cancelled my direct debit to 3 and I'll pay at the post office - minus the £18!!0 -

How did they get your mobile number?

Below is a list of the scheme’s current Accredited Payment Intermediaries who are connected to the respective networks.
it's owned and operated by the five Networks so for 3 to say the billing is nothing to do with them is just an outright lie.Accredited

3 also told my mum it was nothing to do with them, so my theory is, if I withhold the £18 then 3 shouldn't care, KKO should chase me for it. I know this won't be the case but this is my argument.0

If you decide to withhold the £18 you must send a letter(recorded delivery?) to explain why and tell them you are disputing it. Remember you must pay the undisputed bill.
I also believe people with this problem should always contact their local MP and let them shoulder some of the problem. The Government holds much of the blame for this being allowed to happen.
Hopefully somebody can give you better advice.
@messimoney how did they get your mobile number....which phone did you use to cancel your mum's 'subscription'(your mobile?)....which number did you call?0 -
I used my mobile, it was only a few minutes later i checked my bill out of curiosity that I noticed mine as well, I'm with 3 so I assume its just a common scam to 3 customers?
I know its not the right thing to do with holding the money but if 3 are adamant its "nothing to do with them" then why cant KKO contact me for the charges?
I received a response to my email today too, I sent it on my mums behalf and it reads like this:
Dear Madam, Sir,
Thank you for contacting us.
According to our database, a subscription was done from your mobile phone.
This subscription happened on 02.01.2012 14:04:52. My Mum was definitley at work this day at this time.
You received a confirmation text message afterwards. She has never received any text message.
You can get more detailed information about our products on www.kkomobile.co.uk
The subscription gives you 5 weekly credits for GBP 4,5, which means you can download 5 products per week from our website.
It's impossible for us to know exactly which banner you clicked on because they are rotated randomly throughout the day.
After clicking you were redirected to a page where the name of the service and its price were displayed at the top of the screen. Had a "click" happened, Im sure she would know about it and "click" off this page.
In order to confirm your purchase order you passed through a double opt-in process using the Payforit service.
Once again, not happened, she would have just clicked off.
Payforit is the payment service, supported by all licensed UK mobile operators, designed to make it easy to pay for cost services on the mobile phone
Whenever you want to purchase content, you will be presented with a standard Payforit screen that includes clear information on the content/service you are buying, the merchant you are buying from and how much it will cost you.
Once you authorize the payment by pressing ‘Pay Now’ or ‘Subscribe’, a payment request goes directly to your mobile operator for validation.
We would be aware of the problem had this happened
On our billing page it clearly states that it is a 4,5 GBP per week subscription.
Your mobile number/SIM card initiated the subscription, and we have followed the industry regulations in order to make the service as clear as possible, by sending you a text message confirming your subscription. Industry regulations? THEFT!!!
For this reason you are unfortunately not eligible for a refund. However, your subscription has been terminated and you will not get charged any further.
Kind regards,
Edward

I don't know how they are operating this fraud but it appears there is little or no interaction from the victims....if PhonepayPlus investigated they would probably see this.
You AND your mother(you on behalf) should contact and complain to PhonepayPlus with all your communications. Tell them about how they signed you up and tell them they have refused you a refund.
http://www.phonepayplus.org.uk/For-the-Public/Make-a-complaint/Complaint-Form.aspx
you should tell these people how you were 'signed' up

B]EDIT[/Bwhich number did you call the Payforit number
http://whocallsme.com/Phone-Number.aspx/08458341119
or a kko number............if you called the Payforit number it looks like it was their 'Accredited Payment Intermediary' who may have signed you up or passed your number to kko0
