There always used to be an issue with PAL v NTSC video stuff from USA.....dunno if it still exists these days.
On DVD it's region coding which might affect which PS3 games you can play (will definately affect DVDs you can play on the PS3) - I think the games have region coding on them.
Also consider that you won't have a warranty for the PS3 if you buy it in the US and bring it back to the UK...also the issue of import duty.
While we have no issues buying a $200 digital camera in the US, I would think twice about buying a $500+ PS3 for these reasons.
If you still want to buy one and you are in Vegas over a Sunday go to the gift shop of your hotel and buy a newspaper...it will have all the weekly ads in it for all the major stores and you can see if anyone is offering any special deals on the PS3...if not, would suggest Best Buy near Boulevard Mall on Maryland Parkway...probably the closest and most likely to have a decent price...there or Fry's, which is on the Strip but quite a ways south of Mandalay Bay.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -
I'm a Vegas addict and a member of several Vegas boards, but have only just discovered this thread!!
There's some great advice on here and thanks to all the posters. I have just finished reading the last 30 pages.
One thing I haven't seen mentioned is the 11% discount card at Macy's. You need photo ID to prove you're from out of state and the card is good for 5 days. If it expires, just got back for another one. You sign up at the Customer Services desk. It isn't valid for cosmetics and fragrances.
We are going back to Vegas for the 7th time from 1-8 November for a week and I can't wait! Staying at the IP Thurs-Sat at $109/$109/$119 which is great on one of the busiest and most expensive weekends. Then moving to the Bellagio for one night at $179 on a promo from Fat Wallet followed by 3 nights at PH for $69/night, which I think has $20 resort credit, again on a promo for player's card holders.
We are flying direct with bmi from Manchester for only £389 on a promo which includes a flight from Aberdeen to Manchester so it is an excellent price. The last time it cost £640.
Going to try the $20 at Bellagio and PH. In May we stayed at PH for 5 nights the first week and 4 nights the second week. (Stayed at the IP over the weekend.) Tried the $20 trick and it worked like a charm! Asked nicely if there were any complimentary upgrades while holding my $20 and credit card. The very nice clerk said he'd check and offered us a resort room or a fountain view room. Hubby opted for the fountain view again. Handed over $20 and CC. The clerk was most appreciative, said he'd noticed we were coming back the following week and would assign us the same room for then! 9 nights upgrade for $20. Sweet!
I have a 10 trip monorail pass which I got for $17.50 instead of $35 on a promo they were running for a convention in September and will be using it to get a 2 for 1 breakfast at the LV Hilton with a coupon from the ACG.
I noticed earlier in this thread that people were saying that the rates were really high 28 October - 2 November because it was Halloween. That's not the reason, it's because there is a convention with 120,000 delegate over those dates.
Like some others on here, despite visiting 6 times, we have no intention of staying off strip or downtown. For me the strip is the only place to be.
We are looking to go back again for 11 nights in May, but the flight prices are still really high. May consider going with Virgin with an overnight the night before at Gatwick if the price is right.
Now I have this thread in my Favourites, I hope to be a regular visitor.0 -
you should def get the iris scan it take only 15 mins to have it done and there are booths there to practice.
at gatwick south its open in the morning and shuts at 13:30 and is located at gate 90 once you are airside its only a minute walk from the departure lounges.
We got ours done when we went to africa earlier in the year.
At gatwick arrival immigration hall if you walk down the long slope and face the desks the iris scan booths are on the far left hand side ther are small grey and black signs on the columns.
When we came back from florida on the 22/10 the queue was a nightmare all the way up the slopes and back back back into the corridors.but because of the iris scan we spent 10 mins making our way thru the queue "excuse me, excuse me, excuse me please " the looks you get are note nice i can tell you but we waited for over an hour for our daughter who had not had it done as we had a late flight this time but it gave us time to get our cases while everyone else were in the queue "had the whole carousel to ourselves

Hi all
well, im off to LV on Nov 27th, and im all booked in for 4 nights at the Bellagio (thought we'd treat ourselves) Ive spent a day booking various things for our trip (we are off to New York after Vegas too) and have already spent a fortune, inc a fair whack on a heli trip to the Gran Canyon.
Anyway, i had my heart set on seeing O by Cirque and Blue Man Group, but the tickets for these shows, particularly O, are pretty shockingly dear!
Is there any website that anyone can point me to, which might have reduced ticket prices than those which are showing up on the official sites (Bellagio website for O, and the direct site for BMG)?
Im not sure i want to risk tickets2nite etc for O inparticular, as ive heard its pretty much constantly sold out, unless someone can advise me otherwise?
All help and advice greatly appreciated!0 -
Hi,
We were in LV last week and got tickets for the BlueMan group through Tckts2Nite and paid $102 each, so not much of a saving but the seats weren't bad.. about 6-7 rows from front to the left of stage.
They did pick my wife to go on stage for the dinner date sketch with them though so it was worth every penny.0 -

O is almost never discounted...if you have your heart set on seeing it, book in advance through their website (as others have mentioned, military can get tickets at 50% off)...personally, I thought it was worth every penny...my favorite Vegas show so far.
BMG discounts aren't much easier to come by but as RichTeaBiscuit found, they are occasionally available at 20% off or so...we saw BMG in London through lastminute.com and thought it was great, but we paid £20/seat...it's worth more, definately, but not sure if it's worth Vegas prices unless you can't see it nearer to home...we were also part of the show...we were late.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -
Two things to remember.......10% off thru Flying Club, and free hotel in Gatwick thru Frequent Virgin.
** Edit - I keep reading reference to post #500. Is there an easy way to access it or do I just have to trawl through the topic?
** Edit - I found post #500, but it doesn't mention buying miles with Virgin or using miles + money. Can someone post a link to the correct post for me please?0 -
Oh
thanks guys
Looks like i'll be paying full price! As for the military, my brothers in the army...wonder whether i could use him to my advantage... unlikely though as it seems every ticket outlet insists on passports etc for ID when picking tickets up
Damn!0
