I agree, there is very little to do in Vegas for a 16 year old. NOT ALLOWED to stop when walking through a Casino, but the Orleans might be a good choice, just off strip witha free shuttle and has a 70 lane bowling alley and a cinema and a sports arena next door.

At what time of day/night did this happen?
This was 10 oclock at night in a well lit area right outside a store..I know it can happen anywhere...we were just in the wrong place at the wrong time probably. We did the $20 trick as we were booked into the manor rooms at circus circus and we ended up in the tower rooms which were nicer....

    thats really bad luck pudding...
as long as your ok , no physical damage.
    What did they get?
Hope it did`nt ruin your trip.
Not as bad as being mugged I know, but in San Fran 18months ago I got caught by a gang of street hustlers doing the old shoe shine trick...conned out of only 20bucks but the feeling it leaves you with is unreal...
    so annoyed with myself.
hope it don`t put you off Vegas.

Ok thanks for all the great advice.I've done Diy many times but doing it to the US scares the pants off me
I'm going to wait a wee while and see if the prices come down a bit although I doubt I'm going to get cheaper flights. The 1 stop doesn't bother me as it's only a 2 hour one
I really like the look of the IP and yes we will be sharing as there is no way I would leave my 16 year old on her own in a room(she aint streetwise)
I'm going to sign up for all the popular hotels offers and see what comes up....as you all say there is no problem if I want to cancel for a better deal.
At the moment I'm quite taken with the IP so I'll stick to that one for now

I would really consider Excalibur...there's not a ton for a 16-year old to do in the mid-strip area...but there's a lot at Excalibur and Luxor (connected by a monorail and also possible to walk between the two without going outside)...and then across a pedestrian bridge to NYNY there's a lot for kids there and access via the bridge and not the street.

Personally, we have stayed at Excalibur several times and our friends who stayed at IP said our room was a lot nicer and less expensive.

IP may be a better location generally...but I do think that with a 16-year-old South Strip may be a better choice...and as photome suggested - Orleans would be a good option...not on the strip, but rooms are supposed to be great value for money (have seen as low as $30/night before), tons and tons of stuff for the kid to do (multiplex cinema and bowling, most noteably)...and shuttles to the strip.

Actually, as you are there for 2 weeks, may be worth considering 1 week at one hotel and one at another...moving is a bit of a pain, but might be nice to break it up a bit.
Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?

and I know it has been mentioned a few times here, but it's worth repeating.

compiles tons of deals available to the general public (mostly from emails sent out to those who have signed up for emails from the hotels).

I've posted about the Orleans elsewhere but never hurts to repaeat things. Apart from the hotels we have used downtown the Orleans is by far and away worse than any we have used on the strip. Every Friday there will be a queue of hundreds of hispanics cashing in their pay check to negotiate ( the queuse is so long it has stretched right across the casino floor and out towards the arena). Also the smokiest casino and the pool is in the shadow of the hotel until mid morning. On the plus side the cinemas, bowling, arcades, and rooms were fine. Definitely not walkable to the strip so you really do rely on the freebie bus if you don't have a car. Check out who is performing there during your visit - Black Eyed peas (not the sort of venue I would associate them with but there you go) are there (or have just been there) so a good chance somebody decent for your daughter to see
