Vegas Baby!!!!
I luurrve Las Vegas. I went and fell in love with the place, cant wait to go back but there are other places on my list first.
For anyone that is interested here are my personal reccommendations for Vegas travelers
Accomodation
We stayed in the MGM grand on The Strip and it was great. Clean, good class of rooms, easy to get to everywhere from and plenty of ammenities.
Shopping
My personal recommendations would be for shopping go to Belz Factory Outlet Centre. It’s a taxi ride from The Strip but will only cost you $2 – 3 to get there and then there is loads of designer factory stores with dirt cheap gear, such as CK, Nike, Levi’s etc.
The hotels on the strip sometimes have their own shopping malls, check out Desert Passage in the Aladdin hotel for some different shops (including Victoria’s secrets!) or The Forum shops at Casers Palace for a bit of everything. Or if you’re feeling lavish check out Via Bellagio at the Bellagio hotel, here you’ll find shops such as Tiffany’s, Prada and Armani.
Eating
I didn’t have one bad meal when in Vegas! It really is the 24 hours city and there is always somewhere open at some time during the day. The Yanks tend to eat later than us to restaurants and night clubs don’t get busy and atmospheric till around 9pm. If you have a bit of money to treat yourself I would recommend booking an evening meal at The Top Of The World Restaurant at the Stratosphere hotel, the restaurant is a revolving restaurant which gives you a 360 degree look at Vegas whilst dining in style! Had a lovely meal here and was very reasonably priced considering the venue. I think we spent around $160 for a 5 course meal for two with wine which works out at only around £70. There is also a rollercoaster on top of the building which is amazing, but do this before dinner!!!
There are loads of all you can eat breakfast and lunch buffets around which are great value for money, but make sure you get their early!!!
Things to do
Try and get out to the Grand Canyon but you will need a full day for this which may not be possible if you’re only there for a long weekend.
Go to see the dancing fountains at The Bellagio at night, its really cool!
Head “down town” one evening to see the laser light show and check out the shops and bars down there (this is the really cheese of Vegas!)
General
Always make sure you have a bottle of water on you, bottled drinks can be quite expensive in some of the hotels and you will get thirsty walking the strip.
The majority of restaurants and casinos are non-smoking
Looks can be deceiving and getting from one end of The Strip to the other can take forever if walking. If you want to get from one hotel to another quickly make use of the free transport provided by some hotels. There are a couple of trams that run, some monorails and some “trolleys” (little buses!)
Avoid Circuis circuis if you don’t have children, theres not much there for adults
Make use of the free magazines and “to do” brochures found in the Airport and the hotel lobby’s, they have loads of great deals and a lot of money off coupons.
Watch out, Vegas isn’t called “Sin City” for nothing! There are a lot of flyers on the streets advertising “personal services” and you will be approached by “scouts” if you are out walking alone, especially in the evening so try to stick together.
Always carry change for tips and tip everyone! Don’t forget to tip your maid by leaving a $1 or so on the pillow every morning….. you’d be surprised in the change of service you get and most employees in the casinos rely on tips to pay their wages! Especially tip the dealer if you are having a good run at a table.
Take loads of photos, it really is like no other place and I can guarantee you will want to remember it!
I have found the following websites the best for Vegas tourists:
https://www.ilovevegas.com
https://www.lasvegas.com
https://www.visitlasvegas.com
.... phew, thats my 2 cents! If you are going most important thing is HAVE FUN!!!!

Great post, misslopex...but one thing that may need clarification...misslopex wrote:The majority of restaurants and casinos are non-smoking
Restaurants, yes (a law was recently passed on this point)...casinos, no...most casinos have non-smoking tables...some may have non-smoking slot areas, but the majority of the areas in the majority of casinos allow smoking...
Just wanted to point this out so that a) the smokers don't panic and b) the non-smokers aren't disappointed when they find that most places people will be smoking.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -
a thought for anyone considering VIRGIN PREMIUM ECONOMY
the https://www.maxjet.com buisness class service may beat it on price and trust me premium economy is nothing special. you just get acceptable leg room and last on/ first off seating. leg room is about what is standard for some other atlantic airlines.
know which i would choose if i had the budgetBetter in my pocket than theirs :rotfl:0 -

Hi,
Im off to Vegas in Early June for 5 nights planning to stay at the Strat ( £242 for 5 nights from expedia )
All this talk of upgrades and suites got me thinking. Does anyone know of hotels that do decent priced rooms/suites with jacuzzi's? If your gonna enjoy vegas why not do it in style!
Any help would be appreciated.
