The reason why the tables are so popular is cos the Americans know that its a great game and factually speaking the house has the lowest odds in its favour of ANY OTHER game - so its the best one to play.

I think that Black Jack and full-pay Video Poker (both played with perfect strategy) have lower house odds than the best of the craps bets...and the worst (odds wise) of the craps bets are worse than most slots relatively speaking.

But if you can't play perfect strategy blackjack or VP (which I certainly can't) then the even money craps bets are probably the best out there.

I agree that it seems a very complicated game...I have learned how to play and forgotten several times myself.

Just don't shake the dice like you are playing Monopoly. I learned that the hard way...they get sooo annoyed with you if you take the dice and shake them in both hands. :)
Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?

    Hi Trets,
this is the common misconception - it really isnt that hard. If I can do it anyone can. Granted, Im not totally up on ALL of the bets, but the basic ones are easily mastered within an hour or so. The first time you shake those two red dice is amazing! (especially if you dont throw a seven - craps - after the point has been made!)

The reason why the tables are so popular is cos the Americans know that its a great game and factually speaking the house has the lowest odds in its favour of ANY OTHER game - so its the best one to play. If anyone is interested I will write up the BASIC rules and post here - wont bother if its not valuable to anyone...

Photome - I love roulette - its my favourite table game BUT I always lose in the long run as I have favourite number (doh!) and the double zero over there means that the wheel is different to here so I dont tend to play over there - Black 29 does it for me :rotfl: Whats yours?......

I have the american casino guide book and the rules confuse me!!

I always play 25 and 17 and then usually the last few numbers that come up amazing how often you get the same number twice in a row.

The double zero is annoying but the strat has a single zero $10 minimum table and there are others out there but with higher minimums

    Hello everyone,

Secondly - In reply to doodle-bugs post about gaming - Im not a huge gambler (I play a bit of poker and I dont consider tournament poker as gambling-though people do disagree with me!!) BUT there is no mention of anyone trying Craps whilst over there. I played for the first time on my last Vegas trip in July this year and its AMAZING!!! Ive never made so much money and Im a small stake person! It can be quite intimidating at first but persevere. I read up on how to play, watched a silly tv show on it and then watched for real in the Golden Nugget. Their stakes are pretty low - $5 minimum so I gave it a go after the dealer insisted that I would win!!!! And I most certainly did. The guy next to me was betting $500 for each of my $5 and he was loaded by the end of the hour or so. I went away happy and hooked - luckily they dont have craps here (or in Ireland - that Im aware of....) Anyway - give it a go - in my opinion it beats pressing a button on a slot machine - just keep your stakes low for maximum enjoyment :T
    Enjoy

I learned craps at the Barbary coast a couple of years ago, they teach you how everyday at about 10am and give you a $5 voucher at the end, after the instruction I gave it a go and lost $50 in less than a minute, I kept going back to get the $5 voucher and won my money back. One Saturday night in the Orleans I walked upto a table and put a $100 bill on the table for chips, they gave me $200 in chips, that is the best bet I ever made. Anyway a black guy was throwing the dice and the table was hot hot hot, it was cheering and high fives all around, a chinese came and bet opposite to us and lost big style, the black guy eventually lost the dice and the table went cold and I walked away all my pockets full with chips, I was 3 sheets to the wind and cashed the chips in, I don't recall how much but it was but is was a lot. God I've seen some good winners on craps, I'm scared to join a hot table in case I put the mockers on it. Last time at the Barbary a lady just kept throwing 7's every go, double your money every go for about 10 mins, I thought if I put some money down it'll jinx it.

    Fly out this Sunday, Whaoooo!

Is it possible to get a pretty reasonable priced motel in Las Vegas - single person for a week. No specific budget - just cheaper than the hotels I have seen discussed in the pages I have looked at so far.

Would take too long to read all the posts.

    Thanks.

Average rates for motel6 are about $40 a night, for my money i would rather stay on the strip in a low budget hotel for similar or less.

    Hi doodle,
thats probably the best way to do it (the free lessons) I never got round to going to one and, funnily enough, the first night I played I was "quite tipsy" myself (free bar at the Voodoo Lounge!!!) and I was amazed at the winning rate too. (So, obviously, you can lose just as quick).
I love the high fives etc - but I have also seen some arguments happen too. Its always the same when money is involved - as ferf1223 says NEVER do a two handed shake!!!!

What you have just said is interesting as thats what confused most people - ie throwing a SEVEN before the point is made is GOOD - and people can literaly double their money with a minimal stake. Whereas throwing a SEVEN after the point is made is BAD and everyone loses every bet on the table.
I am SOOOooo jealous that you are flying out on Sunday - have an AMAZING time - I have to wait till next year now....

Photome - Thanks for the tip about the Strat having a single zero. Thats one of the few hotels in Vegas that I havent been in yet. It was Luxor or Strat on the last day of my last trip and I chose Luxor for their 3D Imax and search for Obelisk ride. God I wish I was going back soon......
