We were thinking as we are staying at the Tropicana of seeing The Comedy Stop (21)
    Anthony Cools at Paris (21)
    Carrot top at Luxor (18)
Plus one of the Cirque shows which she'll be ok for and the Legends in Concert show....again she's ok for that one
She'll pass for 18 for Carrot top unless we are challenged but there is no way she's gonna pass for 21 to go to the other 2 shows....Another thought....if we go into a bar will she be able to join us if she only has a soft drink like you can in the UK
I can't belive there are so many restrictions in the US.
I mean u go to Benidorm and little kids can go and see the likes of Sticky Vicki which in my opinion is far far worse....I've not even seen her and I've been to Beni 6 times

Most bars in the US restrict entry to those 21 or older - that way, there's no issue with under age people getting served alcohol...if they aren't let in, they can't sneak up to the bar and give it a try...bars can be fined heavily and even shut down for violating liquor laws, so they have to be really strict.

I think that in Vegas they enforce this even more strictly than your average US city...I went many years ago with a friend who was at the time 27 but looked younger, she got carded within about 4.7 seconds every time we walked into a bar. I would be stunned if they allowed your daughter into any of the bars in Vegas.

As for the shows, I doubt that she will be allowed into the 21+ shows even with you to be honest...bearing in mind that any improv show can be a bit of a gamble in terms of the content, etc. And to be honest, a lot of others in the audience would probably not really be keen on a teenager being there...Vegas is really seen as a place for adults...there are some things for younger people to do, but primiarly it's not really geared toward the under 21 in most cases.

i,ve mentioned this before but i get asked for ID in bars/Restaurants ect and i,m 34 and look it !!!

there was this one guy in this Mexican bar i was drinking in who must of been 40 if he was day and he got asked for ID when he ordered a drink.

like ferf says you have to prepared for the fact that vegas is aimed at adults and uncle sam considers adults to be 21 and over.

i remember seeing a story recently about a mum who left her 17 year old son and his buddies at home in the middle of nowhere in the bible belt with some alcohol so they could have a bit of fun . the police found out and she ended up being sentanced to several years in prison. to us in a very alcohol tolerant society that seems extremley harsh , but thats the states for you. guns ect no problem .. beer to minors ...big problem. you just have to respect the local laws i,m afraid.

don,t get down about it , you will still have a great time i,m very sure  it,s just that booze is not treated the same way as over here. eating out you will be okay( as long as your daughter is not ordering booze) , but for bars ect you will probably be turned away.we always enjoy late night USA TV with a few drinks from room service after a night out
Better in my pocket than theirs :rotfl:

Dont get to worried about it, I remember when you first asked on here that you said your daughter would be happy with shopping and the pool (I think).

There is plenty more to do and see as you know from reading all the threads etc.

As has been said alchohol and under age dont go together, and casinos and under age dont go together either, anyone under 21 is not allowed to loiter in a casino (you will get asked to move on).

Also I believe in Nevada (or it may be califonia) anyone under 18 is on a curfew and are not allowed on the streets without an adult after 10pm, I know that wont affect you.

I have also been asked for ID when buying alchohol in a store and I am in my 40s

  • All this talk of shows and bars, how about some gambling talk? Could do with a thread on gambling in Vegas. The British in Vegas are some of the lowest stake gamblers in Vegas, I have a guide which says we spend £50 each gambling per trip. I only bet what I can afford to lose and set myself limits, If I'm up at the end of the day fantastic, if down I have only lost what I was willing to lose.

It is possible to give yourself more of a chance of winning than losing. I like playing the slots in Vegas, I never play slot machines in the Uk. The bingo clubs have the best paying machines here but even they are a rip off. I have a Simpsons fruit machine and have it set on about 90% payout, it has a £25 jackpot but the real jackpot is £75, £25 repeated 3 times. I have won the £75 on my machine a few times and I'm not going to walk away with £75 in pound coins so put it back in. It takes about 10 minutes for it to have it all back.

I've walked away winning on all the table games in Vegas, my personal strategy at blackjack is double my bet after a losing hand, you have about a 50/50 chance of winning any hand at BJ. You can get some high bets going and need strong nerve occasionally playing like that but I only bet what I can afford to lose.

I love the slots in Vegas, a lot are good fun with a lot of humour like shrimp mania where you could end up with a massive pile of shrimp or an old boot,I love Turkey shoot, guides on the www give you tips on how to play, full pay poker machines should be the best gamble in Vegas. I don't know if it is coincidence but I've found if you walk upto a poker machine within a couple of goes it will give small payout and you will be up, walk away and play another and you'll soon build up your winnings, I don't put the cashout tickets back in, I'm convinced when you put it back in another machine it knows it is winnings and wants it back, there is a tip on the net about not playing credits and this is my tip not to play with cashout tickets, cash them in first.
The first time I went to Vegas I came away at least $400 to the good and more likely I was $600 up which I was really chuffed about. Every trip I've won and had a lot of fun winning.

It is Nevada (or at least Las Vegas).

Here's a site for info on travelling to Vegas with kids.

    http://www.reviewjournal.com/travel/kids.html

Tango - from there you can get to this link which does give some for some shows as to whether those under the age limit can be admitted with someone who is older.

    http://www.reviewjournal.com/neon/showsevents/comedy.html

It doesn't list the info for all, but for some...and I see that the other improv place (Second City at Flamingo) does allow those 15 or over - so maybe that is an alternative to The Comedy Stop for you?

Also, interestingly also found this on the casino policies (the first part I knew, but the second I don't think that I did):

"Those under 21 years old may not stand around in gaming areas while adults gamble. Those under 21 are allowed to pass through casinos, accompanied by an adult, while going to a restaurant, show or attraction.

The one exception is the Bellagio Hotel & Casino. The Bellagio's policy for non-guests is that children under 18 are not allowed to enter the property unless attending a show (tickets must be purchased in advance) or eating at a fine-dining restaurant (reservations must be made in advance). Guests of the Bellagio are not subject to this policy."

Given the amount of regulation casinos are subject to, I really don't think that they could set the machines to payback less if a voucher was inserted instead of cash...I also think that the not playing credits thing is a myth along with tons of others out there (it used to be said that either hot coins or cold coins would cause you to win more, etc. :))

However, I think that whatever works for an individual is great...everyone has their little quirks and ways of playing that work for them and there's nothing at all wrong with that...we used to be convinced that the slots payed out best after 2 am...that's how they worked for us, anyway...in reality it was just coincidence and logically we know that - but it doesn't hurt us to believe something else if it works for us. :)

I do play fruit machines in the UK, but only for fairly low stakes (about £10/week - just for fun)...last week I ended the week up about £900...THAT will never happen again (and has never happened before) especially with the new regulations from today that restrict the number of £500 jackpot machines.

I love the slots in Vegas...so much variety, and a chance to win a nice amount...I know that they are not great odds when compared to VP and blackjack, but I prefer not to have to think and I like the chance of winning a lot more times my stake...blackjack bores me as the best I'm going to do is 1 1/2 times my stake (and I have to concentrate)...but slots, when you win a few hundred on a $1 stake - that's awesome. :)

Has anyone recently stayed at the "new" Planet Hollywood? (ex Aladdin)

Myself and the wife stayed there for 10 days in July and had a great time. Did the $20 bill trick on check in and got upgraded and a great fountain view, excellent buffet and cracking location too. We'd stay there again, but we want to experience other places too though.
