I tell you this "chilli" is a real chuck anything in that needs using up job! just thought I would list the things I chucked in this morning whilst still half asleep here goes

Further to my above post, this could be where the "chuck wagon" got its name from.

    Hi
We're off to my sister's this afternoon for a late Christmas get-together and I've cooked a big batch of chilli (and done some garlic bread).

My sister has 2 kids aged 7 and 3 and although they do eat the chilli she makes (from a jar), I'm not sure if the one I've made will be too hot for them, I've toned it down a lot from the one I usually make, but still wanted some 'heat' to it.

Will yoghurt take the heat out of it if it's too hot for them?

If not, does anyone have any other suggestions please?

    Thanks
    Polly
  • I think you are right - yoghurt will help them if it is too hot for them. Or some lovely soured cream...

try squeezing a little lemon juice in, that sometimes helps. But otherwise, yup. soured cream is the best thing (or failing that, stir yoghurt in). mix with lots of rice in order to keep the heat down a bit. If you've overdone the chillis in any dish, or you've inadvertently eaten something too spicy for you, don't bother with drinking loads, that doesn't help. The best thing to do is to eat lots of something bland, like rice - in fact, hot cultures use a lot of spicy food for that reason, because it forces you to eat (where you might otherwise not want to, because of the heat).

    Just an update, really.

Thanks to everyone who replied, I took some yoghurt up (didn't have any sour cream or creme fraiche in) to my sisters.

The 7 year old ate the chilli as it was - and had seconds too.

We stirred the yoghurt into the chilli for the 3 year old (talking the red kidney beans out) and told him it was 'soup'.
He had 4 silces of garlic bread so all in all, it was a success.

    Thanks again

    Hi Pollycat,

I've added your thread to the chilli too hot thread as it helps to keep all the suggestions together.

Help! In the middle of cooking chilli con carne for dinner and I've put way too much chilli powder in. Is there any way I can salvage it?
