if your getting a Virgin V+ box make sure they give you the samsung one not a SA one - the SA ones are slow and have loads of hard drives faults - since I got my Samsung box its been brilliant

Doesn't work that way, customer get's whatever boxes the installer has on the van & what stores have in stock.Certain boxes work better on some area networks than others,it also depends on what platform your network is on.Over here we couldn't get Samsung boxes at one point as the PACE one's didn't work properly on a network in South England.so we got all the PACE & they got ull the Samsung, which peed off lots of housewives who wanted silver cable boxes to match the rest of their kit...

I'd go for a new model. I'm sure there's nothing wrong with refurbs, but they may not be all that much cheaper. If you don't want to spend much, you don't have to. And particularly if you are just watching regular TV, there are no real advantages to be gained by getting something more expensive.

Though do remember, broadcast HD isn't in "full HD" (and I doubt we'll see that for a while yet), so a full HD over a standard "HD ready" will give you no real advantage, particularly at that size.
Broadcast HD is 1080i.....that is "Full" HD!

Hi-our sitting room is not huge at all & we're only 5-7 feet away from TV.

    I sit about 7ft from the 50" ;)

  • If you look up the Richer Sounds website you will see that they are doing a couple of 32 Samsungs (put either LE32C350 or LE32C450 in the search bar) for 179 and 199 respectively and a 32 Toshiba for 179.

Richer sounds are an excellent company and you will get some very good no biased advice should you have any questions. But a 40 inch LED 3D set from them a couple of weeks ago and they talked me out of paying more for another brand which (when i got home to check) did indeed have worse reviews.

If possible try to afford the supermarket brands such as Technika etc they will do the job but you are definately getting what you are paying for.
  • Hello all!

Having had great advice from you firendly lot I thought I'd ask your advice...!

We have Virgin Media (TIVO box) & are looking to get a full HD tv for our sitting room (we're about 8-9 foot from the tv). looking at 32 inch/37 inch (40 inch would be nice if sub £300!). need a couple of scart sockets in it at least. At the moment it wwould be a dvd player (not blue-ray-but would consider buying a blu-ray player at some stage), the TIVO box & a ps2 console that would be linked up.

There are SO MANY places to buy & I do get a bit confused by the techie stuff (!).

Also looking as to if it's worth it to buy refurbished/slightly damaged (not fussed about cosmetics!). An example deal would be http://www.electrical-deals.co.uk/toshiba-37rv753-regza-37-inch-full-hd-lcd-tv-freeview-hd.html .

Electrical-deals.co.uk are driveable from where I linve just outside Huddersfield as well-it's all refurb stuff with them with a 1 yr guarantee.

We also have http://www.directtvs.co.uk/content/visit-us.asp?refsource=dtadwords&gclid=COTpm53igKsCFdQNfAodUFGazg in Huddersfield as well.

Also there are loads of e-bay & amazon offers too!

Anyone advise me on if it is REALLY worth the saving for refurb/any reccomendations of places to buy?

Do good old Currys/Comet have deals that match the web? Any advice would be great!:)

(P.S. Same question on techie board-not sure where to post??!)

    I'd start with Richer Sounds.
