  • Wow, I've been reading this and I'm amazed how addictive Diet Coke can be! I used to drink about 2-4 litres a day of regular CocaCola when I was about 16, however I lost so much weight for some reason, plus it didn't rot my teeth!!

Scarey stuff... good luck everyone. I'm giving up chips/fatty foods & booze. Day 4 so far!!

  • I'm a diet coke addict too....

It costs a fortune! I gave up before and has two weeks of headaches (caffeine withdrawl I think). I might try and cut down to a can a day for now! I am giving up fags too, so dont want to do too much at once!

Well done all you ex addicts

Yup i'm a DC addict too!

Gave it up once for around 3-4 months, but back on it now :(
Haven't had any for 3 days thou, so i think i might join in this and try and give it up completely!
I don't drink tea or coffee either, so only water, squash and herbal tea for me!

The only prob is I cannot function without a DC when i've got a hangover :rotfl:

Maybe I'm being pedantic (Ok, I know I am!) but why do people call it "full fat" coke? Theres is zero fat in coke. Theres coke with lots of sugar in it (which could turn to fat if you drink loads) or coke with artificial sweeteners.

Nobody thinks there is fat in coke or other soft drinks. It is a humourous allegory to things like "mayonaise lite" which have reduced fat.

    Q. If diet coke is "diet" what is non-diet coke?

    A. Lard boy coke... ;)

    OK, diet coke contains:
    • Aspartame
    • Phosphoric Acid
    • Caffeine

    Aspartame contains
    • Aspartic acid - this is a toxin which kills brain tissue under certain conditions
    • Methanol - this is "meths" which can cause blindness and brain damage again
    • Phenylalanine - this is what you're warned about on the bottle - certain people can't excrete it and its dangerous to them

Phosphoric Acid leaches calcium out of your bones and teeth, which weakens them.

Caffeine. Although this is the great "bugbear" - it doesn't seem to be actually that bad for you. It's a stimulant, which is practically impossible to overdose on, and it doesn't seem to have any long-term effects.

I used to drink a *lot* of diet coke. Now I drink none what-so-ever. I started thinking "why am I drinking this?" The answer was:It's wet and has caffeine in it. So I started drinking cheap as [STRIKE]pi..[/STRIKE] [STRIKE]sh..[/STRIKE] chips shop-brand lemonade (17p and no aspartame at the time) with Pro-plus tablets.

Then I cut out the tablets.

Then I started drinking fruit juice - with no tablets.

It wasn't actually that hard if I'm honest with myself - though you can say "ZTD - that's virtually impossible - you must be a god" if you wish... ;)
