I'm still going strong. Still occasional headaches and still have periods when I feel thirsty no matter how much water I drink!

Now this whole thirst thing is pretty interesting. At least to me ;). In this book, page 438, the guy says
Intense thirst in the abscence of marked sweating of hot weather was experienced by 126 (11 percent) aspartame reactors.
Weiffenback et al (1987) demontrated that taste impairment is not a necessary consequence of salivary gland dysfunction among patients with "dry mouth" caused by the abscence of saliva. Accordingly, such individuals may come to prefer the taste of aspartame in satisfying their chronic thirst... with perpetuation of the sicca (dry eye-dry mouth) syndrome (Chapter IV).

So the question is, are you consuming aspartame in foods/drinks other than diet coke (which you've given up)?

You'll need to do a lot of label reading - the stuff is everywhere.
"Follow the money!" - Deepthroat (AKA William Mark Felt Sr - Associate Director of the FBI)
"We were born and raised in a summer haze." Adele 'Someone like you.'
"Blowing your mind, 'cause you know what you'll find, when you're looking for things in the sky."
    OMD 'Julia's Song'
  • Maybe I'm being pedantic (Ok, I know I am!) but why do people call it "full fat" coke? Theres is zero fat in coke. Theres coke with lots of sugar in it (which could turn to fat if you drink loads) or coke with artificial sweeteners.

I only have 'Fat' coke when i'm having a 'fat' day...or have a hangover..there's no better cure than fat coke and a packet of monster munch!
  • Well done Will and everyone on giving up!!!

I was an addict for probably about 20 years (how scary is that, I'm only 35!), drinking a leaast a 2 lt bottle a day, more if I was home all day, then last summer, for some unexplainable reason..it wasn't planned and I didn't actually think about it..I ave it up, picked up a bottle of diet vimto in the supermarket...it was a hot day and I fancied something fruity with Icy water...and that was it, the bottle that was in the fridge stayed there for oer a week..then I threw it out...OH was gobsmacked...now i drink J20 when I'm out (if i'm not having beer of course!) or a blackcurrant and soda.... i don't drink tea or coffee either so that was never an alternative....reckon there must be something in Vimto that's in DC too, now i'm making a conscious effort to go on to natural squashes, without the chemicals....just not good a drinking water by itself in winter.

    Good luck...you CAN do it!!!
