Hey.. coming from a person that used to drink easy 2ltrs a day of the full fat (I wouldn't touch diet!!)stuff it's not easy!

I found having a replacement drink has helped me loads! I love squashes but I know you have to be careful with the aspartmine in these too!

Good luck! It can be done! I'm down to a can a day of diet/caffinee free.. but my new years resolution is to lose another stone, which mean.. I'll be cutting down even more! And as you say saving the pennies too!

 Can take up to 60 day's apparently to be free of the addiction to Diet Coke, Aspartame is used widely as an artificial sweetener it is also claimed it is a Carcinogen (cancer causing) depending on which 'side' you support re food & drink additives.
Also said that many food & drinks contain preservatives/additives such as Benzoin (same as Anti Freeze) and Formaldyhyde (used in Embalming) plus other nasties too numerous to mention and bore you with but look at it this way, if you carry on eating and drinking all these nasties and do develop some fatal illness at least your relatives will save money on the funeral as a result of your DIY embalming.:D

Careful on the withdrawal, I would suggest cutting down daily or you will get headaches. Avoid any caffeine substitute and any paracetamol etc that contains caffeine obviously but also codeine. Codeine is far more addictive than caffeine.

Good luck, Will. I used to be addicted when I was at university and had to have a can in the union every day with my 50p baked potato, cheese and coleslaw (those were the days...) I would have one at lunchtime or on my break at work over the weekends as well. I still really like it but have it as an occasional treat - I've still got four cans in my fridge from a 12 pack I got in September.

I keep a bottle of squash on my desk at work and have that instead, keeps my water intake up as well as my caffeine intake down. I hate the taste of water on its own, especially out of a water cooler when it tastes all plasticky. When I was little, my sister and I were only allowed fizzy drinks on holiday, so I went a bit mad on it as soon as I left home. I soon got it under control when I left uni, though, and didn't have the subsidised prices of the union or work canteen to rely on. I did work at one place in the States where we had free drinks in the fridge and could have whatever we wanted when we wanted, but there were always really nice fruit drinks or iced tea so I would have those instead.
