I remember a work collegue telling me theres an ingrediant in diet coke products that have been banned in loads of countries but not this one, so think of poisoning and that will definately put you off. I dont know if it's true or not but it would work for me.

I cut out all caffeine myself about 2 years ago, I dont touch any fizzy drinks, tea or coffee. I done it as a experiment as I suffered really bad headaches, it worked. I drink diluted juices when I'm out as I dont like asking for water (I dont want people to think I'm stingy, but I am lol ).

Wishing you all the very best with it,it's not as bad as you think, if you dont buy it, it wont be there to drink!

Be warned though if you are coming off of caffeine as well as fizzy drinks you might get withdrawal head aches for a couple of days - to a week. If you take pills to help the head ache just check that they don't have caffeine in also. Otherwise you'll keep getting head aches take a pill and feel better but it is the caffeine in the pill giving you the fix not really the paracetamol (or what ever) part of the pill making you better.

Good luck to you all with your challenge.

    Hi all

I gave up coke and all fizzy drinks in April 2005 I had to, it was causing me problems with Acid reflux. I had pills for over 18 months and had a scan on organs and then that camera down throat to stomach to check things out. thankfully all ok now, but hospital said the coke was causing most of the trouble, sort of giving me internal grazing on tubes, coke didn;t cause that in the main part, a severe flu and cough caused the mail problem but the coke was making it worse and not letting things heal. So what better reason to give up and save money as well.

    Good luck.
  • More than welcome to join me stopping?

I'll join in with you in the backround if you don't mind. I only drink coke but in august time i gave up and started on diluted morrisons summer fruits (i love that), i drink at least 3 cans per day now though and i need to give it up before my tummy rots away!!!

I will have to start from tomorrow though as already started today,
you never know smoking may be next for me to give up!!

Good luck to you, will pop back and check later how your getting on, i like the 50p idea, thats good, will be rich if i do that!!

I'm another diet coke-aholic - first realised I had a problem when a colleague told me that our small shop profits had doubled thanks to my habit!

I keep thinking about giving up - so will bite the bullet and join you if that's ok! I have a new job now and can get free coke, so I'm not spending as much as I was but I bet I can still save a few pounds....
  • will you can do it :T i gave it up in the latter part of the year... been drinking it since i was knee high... and that was all i would drink or blackcurrent juice (to go with water) neat  now though all i drink is water and the ocasional pure orange/apple juice... the reason i had to give it up was the aspatame... it was messing with my head and making me either depressed one minute or as high as a kite the next... i have been fine without it and lost some weight as well :D all the luck and encouragement to all of you
