I too am addicted to diet coke....

It is one of new year ambitions to cut back (perhaps more realistic than completely giving up).

I haven't had any today (yet - although I did put a 6 pack in the fridge earlier in a moment of weakness...)

yes and no, i treid to just buy cans but i am properly addicted so i just need to stop, and once i beat the habit the addiction will subside

:T I'm with you! I worked out my coke habit was costing me around £400 a year. I'd love to go cold turkey, but can't face going without my caffeine fix. So I've started on supermarket brand cola. It was disgusting for the first week, but it's fine once you get used to it. (Honest ;))

its amazing how a seemingly small change can equate to such a huge amount of savings.

  • Willsnarf1983 you can do it!
I drank fizzy pop for over 35yrs, switching from one brand/flavour to another over the years. Only ever drinking good quality brands,no cheap stuff. Drank cherryade by the bucketfull when I was pregnant, so much so that the store I used to buy from got extra in on special orders to accomodate me! Then I changed to coke, and I got hooked on that. I was on that particular brand for many years and then changed to diet coke, cos I knew how bad it was for me. It took me nearly 6 mnths to eventually get off it, I had constant headaches cos of the rubbish in it, changed over to diet lemonade and drank that for several years till I saw Gillian Mckeith's top ten sins. I sat there with my OH tut tutting as she counted them down and telling my OH how bad he was for having some of these sins and was astounded when she got to no1 and it turned out to be fizzy pop.BOY OH BOY WERE THE TABLES TURNED!. I switched to water the very next day. Went out and got myself a brita water filter(on special offer at asda's for about £10 at moment) and now drink water everyday. I have never drunk tea, coffeee, milk or alcohol all my life and only ever drank water upto being 16yrs old. BELIEVE ME IF I CAN DO IT ANYONE CAN.
Good luck and stick with it. If you are addicted to it anything like I was it wont be easy, but it can be done.
  • been there done that. once stopped for three months. you dont realise how hard it is when you go out for a meal or something to have something non carbonated. Stick to water for the most part but if you do allow yourself the odd treat or one day, dont beat yourself up or you will find that 'just one' will have put you right back where you started. I think i drank about 20 litres this week :(

You can do it, just think of it as evil brown stuff where the recipie is so secret that it must have chemicals and crap in it that does you harm

    Hi Will,

I used to drink 3 cans a day at work, morning break, lunch and then afternoon break. 60p a can from the machine so £1.80 a day! I started drinking water instead - I'd fill a bottle and keep it at my desk, and drink sips during the day so I wasn't thirsty at break time. This helped in more ways than one - the chocolate machine is next to the coke machine so I have cut down loads on chocolate too.

Now the only time I drink coke is at the weekend, mixed with vodka!

You could also try doing what some smokers do - keep a jar in the fridge and every time you go for a drink of coke, put 50p in the jar. When you see how much money is in there after a week or so, you'll want to stop even more!

  • Just wanted to say good luck on this. I was addicted to diet coke in my early teens (a long time ago) but I still remember how hard it was to cut down. I didn't have a monetary aspect to motivate me though, just severe headaches and inability to get to sleep. And of course my mother !!!!

This is one of my big achievements in 06. I drank about 2l at home per day and about 6 cans/ 550ml per day .

Saved a fortune now, and can barely drink it even as a mixer.

I sleep better and feel better

Good luck to you, you can do without it, its habit more than anything.

    :D
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast
