And another step forward. I have just transferred £17.50 into an ISA! That's the start of saving for my July tax bill. I estimate I'll need about £7k so that's a grand a month from now til July  Let's hope I've miscalculated.
Anyway, first time I've had any savings since the early 90s. Feels good.Total debt: 1 January 2007 £[strike]49,387.79[/strike] 1 January 2012 £[STRIKE]19,312.85[/STRIKE] 1 August 2012 £11,517.620 -
I'm having a moment of feeling proud of myself, which is a rare event so indulge me while I pat myself on the back.
You should feel very very proud, Seaxwyn. Lots of pats from me heading your way too:beer:
Things can only get better for you now, and they will:j
Have a good day

I'm just back from my trip to Suffolk. It was intense in various ways and I feel recharged.
I spoke to my dad about the money I owe him and he told me not to think about it any more, it's effectively written off. His main concern is that I should save enough money to fund my kids through university.
So that is a HUGE load off my mind. I owed him £34,400, which he put down as the deposit on our house, and though he was not pressuring me to pay him back, the knowledge that I had that huge debt oppressed me.
I am so deeply grateful for my luck in having such a generous father.
Other than that, the trip was a bonding experience for us. We had a great evening in the Eel's Foot Inn, drinking delicious Adnams beer and enjoying the music. This morning we went for a walk through the heath and marshland, and saw red deer really close up, as well as coal tits, green woodpecker and lots more.... The funeral was sad and moving, and it was good to see some relatives and meet some cousins I hadn't before - a pair of very strange bachelor farming brothers straight out of Cold Comfort Farm.
While I was away OH and the kids did wonders at the school fete, getting lots of quality Christmas presents in the tombola.
We were planning to go on the Climate March tomorrow, and I feel I should as I've got a place on the Downing Street delegation. However DD3 seems quite ill, and DS is not really over his frightening infection of last week, so I'm inclined to chill out at home. I'll make that decision in the morning.Total debt: 1 January 2007 £[strike]49,387.79[/strike] 1 January 2012 £[STRIKE]19,312.85[/STRIKE] 1 August 2012 £11,517.620 -
Oh Seaxwyn, you don't know how happy I am to hear that. Well done you for talking about it. I really do think you should include that in your before figure -you have made a huge step in talking to him about it and the fact that you are now 'free' of it will make (I think) a big impact on you. Lovely also that you had a good bonding experience - perhaps you could contact him about the 2 of you repeating it soon(without the exp of the funeral of course!)?
I think you have a lot of stress with the illness at home - so I think you are right to see how things go - if only you goes perhaps that is better than none?
Hugs

Thats great news you must be relieved..0

That must be such a relief to you. Your dad rocks! And I am glad you had some you time too, even if under sad circumstances.
I hardly dare ask, did you offer the ultimatum to other half about the stuff that was making your DD sad?
Great news about starting to save. It may only be a small amount, BUT it is £17.50 that you don't have to find in July!
take care
chevI want a job that is less than an hour driving away from my house! Are you listening universe?

Ok, so for motivation's sake - add £34,400 to your signature. Then we could have a "first one to pay off £34,000" challenge, and you could win :j
Seriously though, as others have said a bit weight off your mind I am sure. I hope you are having a good weekend xSuccessful women can still have their feet on the ground. They just wear better shoes. (Maud Van de Venne)Life begins at the end of your comfort zone (Neale Donald Walsch)0 -
Thanks all. It certainly is a huge relief, I have been walking on air since that conversation. I'm not going to add it to my signature as that would distort the picture, I have not paid off £34,400!
Chev, I haven't given OH an ultimatum about his junk as he doesn't respond well to any form of nagging or coercion. But he has agreed that one dismantled desk can go to the dump. There are two huge mahogany drawers leaning against the wall that it does seem a shame to dump as they're good antique timber. He is going to offer them to a furniture restorer but has not got round to it.
OH is quite stressed about a lot of marking he has to do so I can't nag too much this weekend. I should do some proper tidying up myself and then I'll have more right to claim the moral high ground.Total debt: 1 January 2007 £[strike]49,387.79[/strike] 1 January 2012 £[STRIKE]19,312.85[/STRIKE] 1 August 2012 £11,517.620
