Thanks both. I'm putting thoughts of tables out of my mind. Even if I did save £2 coins there are plenty of more urgent things we need - like winter coats for the DDs and DD3 will be needing school shoes soon etc etc.

I get daily digests from the two nearest freecycle groups, so if a table does come up I'll spot it.

Just had a row with OH about organisation. He is constantly blaming the children for the fact that our house is a mess and he cant find things. It upsets me as the children are not the cause of the problem, we are, and I feel very bad they have such a chaotic, uncomfortable home to live in.

OH really is a disastrous case, right now fussing because he bought some software and he doesn't even know if it's arrived as he just leaves his post lying anywhere.

I'm reading the 'get organised' book hypno recommended and finding it helpful, wish I could get OH to read it but I know the style would grate on him.

I know where you are coming from - we are the cause of our disorganisation in our house, and if the children have contributed to that, it is only because they are following our example!

this is one reason why I feel so down I think - the disorganisation really makes me feel a failure, although the book helps me massively. However, it is only me that is reading the book, and I lose heart when everyone else carries on as normal. Makes me wonder why I bother sometimes!

I am secretly really really hoping I can afford a cleaner again when I go full time at work - people here are always more organised when they do it for someone else, just not for me!

Big hugs coming your way.....if they can make their way though your chaos and mine :o

If I could afford a cleaner I would hire one, no question. In fact one of the first things I thought after reading about your job offer was 'oh good, she can have her cleaner back now'.

I feel a failure too. My disorganisation covers not just the house but also my work. I edit two magazines, both of which have deadlines next week, and I haven't even commissioned some of the contents, sent out the books for review etc. I really feel sick and ashamed at the thought of how I muddle through. And I'm interviewing someone by phone in 15 minutes and haven't read up the background info yet. Must do that now - eek!

The book is helping me and I must think of a way of translating its message into something palatable to OH.

I used to pay about £25-30 a time for a cleaner for about 3 hours once a week. I would have loved to have had a cleaner twice a week (boy do I ned it) but could never afford it.

Even one session a week made such a huge difference - I would so love to have that back.

The disorganisation thing does include work and home life, and of course when you work from home and are self employed that has bigger implications and bigger overlaps.

I am sure that when I am back at work full time, I will be far more organised, simply because I HAVE to be!! I am quite looking forward to being in a routine again!

Hi Seax...my house is a disorganised space and gets me down at times as well and like you say it isn't fair him blaming the kids...I've quite a bit of car boot stuff under the stairs at the moment but am seriously thinking of giving it to the charity shop...so under my stairs is clear and then buying some storage boxes and storing important stuff there as my house is only small and then that will make the house easier to keep clean...sorry I'm waffling...take care xx
