ref the dining table, why not get a temporary one from freecycle until you can save up for the one you really want?

Hi Seax..popped in to see how you're doing...hope you enjoyed your walk..fresh air is great for clearing the mind...
Sorry about the table but I'm sure there will be another one along...
As for dhs dd...she knows the score with yourselves so probably won't be expecting you to pay for anything ...I think most couples fund the wedding theirselves nowadays...but saying that weddings are expensive even when you are only a guest...but as you say you may be ahead of yourself...
    Have a good evening..take carexxx

    Thanks all -

I've come to my senses and will not be buying a table. I've got OH to tighten up the screw on the pasting table so collapse feels less imminent and I'll keep an eye on Freecycle for another one. We've managed with loaned and Freecycle ones so far, I just went a bit crazy last night when the table was more than usually wobbly, and spotted that lovely table on ebay, just a short drive away....

Also, DSD (dear step daughter) is not getting married. OH asked her straight out. So panic off - and let's hope she doesn't do it until we are in a position to be generous.

Hi Seax, did you manage to get out for your walk?

At least with DSD, you won't have to spend on a new hat - so a very moneysaving weekend - you did not buy a table, and you don't have to pay for a wedding......think of all that money saved!

Good news on clearing your desk too - what's next on the hit list?

Hi hypno. We did get out for a walk, but only to the local park rather than the gardens I had been thinking of. So yet again moneysaving - no diesel used!

Keeping the desk clear will be a job in itself. Already it has acquired two fans and a drawing of a sheep! But the tidying is catching, OH has gone some way towards cleaning his desk and that is a task akin to archaeology with layers and layers of history being unearthed.

have you totted up today's takings yet?

A good couple of hundred pounds I think, so that is very very useful!

I am now absolutely shattered - I did not realise how tired I was until I got home and sat down! I have unloaded the car of the unsold stuff and collapsed!!

I am glad the tidy desk seems to be catching and that you managed to get out, even if you did not get where you wanted to be!

loved the table too. Have you tried freecycle? There are tables and chairs on ours fairly regularly.

Believe me, I am the world's leading expert on freecycle tables! The current (wallpaper) table is the fifth dining table we have had in six years of living in this house. If they end up on Freecycle it is because they are not really that desirable.

The last one (from Freecycle) was so large and ugly that I decided to chuck it out and just have the wallpaper table until we could find a better one.

Our dining room is quite small but very busy. The front door opens straight into it, the kitchen is off it and somehow it's the main place where visitors come and where we all hang out. So I'd like to have it nice and welcoming, rather than looking like a dumping ground for unwanted furniture.

All the same, I can't justify spending on a table. I'll keep looking and maybe something better will come up on freecycle at last.

Morning Seax! How about having a £2 tin for a "dining table fund" - that way you can justify spending on one and it is amazing how quickly those £2 coins build up!
