Morning Seaxwyn
Glad you had a good time, and thanks for the support ref my essay. Am now working on the project so shouldn't really be here...
chevI want a job that is less than an hour driving away from my house! Are you listening universe?

Thanks everyone, and thanks xela for your kind words. I feel weird when people say they've read the whole thread, I cringe at people reading all those whingey posts!
babybug, I do agree, it's hard to talk about debts with real life friends and knowing all the people on here are dealing with the same problems, and keeping their good cheer, is a huge comfort. Hypno's diary is the biggest inspiration to me.
A few little things to record:
I've arranged to do a carboot sale on Sunday with a friend - she's a great ebay seller, gets stuff from carboots, freecycle etc and ebays it on, so I hope to pick up some tips. Glad to have a new friend as well.
After a tip in the weekly MSE email, I've decided to do all my supermarket shopping on my (currently unused) Abbey card, to get 5% cashback. I'll obviously pay it off in full each month. If all goes well, this will be good practice for stoozing when I finally get debt-free.
OH has various meetings and training days booked in before his new job, which starts on 1 Oct, so I finally feel secure that it will actually happen. I hope he enjoys it and it doesn't turn out too stressful. I have no idea yet how much he'll be earning, but whatever, it will make a huge difference to our finances to have him earning at all.
What else
I got my 100th lifetime feedback on Amazon today - 100% positive, I'm very proud.
And finally, the healthy bunch of basil I put in my money corner last night was shrivelled when I got up this morning. What's going on? It's now pureed and in the freezer but I'm a bit worried the vibes there are really toxic!Total debt: 1 January 2007 £[strike]49,387.79[/strike] 1 January 2012 £[STRIKE]19,312.85[/STRIKE] 1 August 2012 £11,517.620 -
OMG! I don't know what to read into the shrivelled basil/money corner thing

Welcome back. Pleased you enjoyed your holiday. Any questions about Exmoor, do ask. Sounds I have lived everywhere you are going but it's a coincidence, honest! I have only lived in two places (here for 16 years) and the edge of Exmoor (24 years) .
We do offer an escape in many ways from the material reality that seems to have enveloped most of our country. I've often been heard to say 'give me a blue sky and a calm sea and I want for no more'. It might seem nauseous to some but I mean it and hope you felt a touch of it on your holiday. Exmoor will delight you. Just be prepared with rainy day activites (books and games) and sunny day (walking gear).0 -
HI Kez
You are very lucky to live lived in such beautiful places. We really did have a lovely time in Cornwall, one of the highlights for me was walking the coastal path from Helford Passage to Maenporth - beautiful views out across the Helford estuary and the sea.
In Exmoor we will be walking the Coleridge Way, from Nether Stowey to Porlock. I don't know the area. I've been once several years ago, and remember it was beautiful, so I look forward to seeing more. I hope we get good weather but even if it pours I will still enjoy it.Total debt: 1 January 2007 £[strike]49,387.79[/strike] 1 January 2012 £[STRIKE]19,312.85[/STRIKE] 1 August 2012 £11,517.620 -
Afternoon Seaxwyn...glad to see things coming together for yourself and DH..how did the carboot go?0
-
Hi taxi, the carboot was not great, after costs and buying a few things I only made £14-something profit. It was the fourth one I've done this summer so all my good stuff has gone really.
The total will go up a bit as my friend took the knitting patterns and forgot to pay me for them. She said she'd pay 50p each, I hope she remembers as I will feel awkward asking for the money.
I did get a really good mouse cage with lots of accessories, and a large amount of pet bedding, food etc, all for £1 - bargain as DS really wants to keep mice. And my DDs sold some of their stuff, and bought some more, so it was a good outing.Total debt: 1 January 2007 £[strike]49,387.79[/strike] 1 January 2012 £[STRIKE]19,312.85[/STRIKE] 1 August 2012 £11,517.620 -
Even though you didn't make a huge amount at the car boot, you have come away with something well worth £1, and didn't end up spending more than you made, so still a success really!
I hope you have a productive and positive week xxSuccessful women can still have their feet on the ground. They just wear better shoes. (Maud Van de Venne)Life begins at the end of your comfort zone (Neale Donald Walsch)0 -
HI Hypno, Thanks for looking at it in such a positive light as usual. I don't feel bad about the carboot sale as I honestly enjoyed it.
But I can't help wondering why I always make so little! I am always reading on here about people making £80 or £90 carbooting. What am I doing wrong? Perhaps it's because I haven't bought anything new in so many years that all I have to sell is really old and well used.
The carboot was a distraction really, I'm more worried about my failure to get my 'real' work done. I need to sort out my attitude as I get bogged down worrying about how much I have to do rather than seeing it in terms of ££££ to earn. I feel so overwhelmed by what I have to do that I can't get on with it and let the hours go by reading MSE, helping with school swimming lessons or whatever.
Oh well, dont want to get on a downer now, I've just cracked one task that has daunted me for a week (one of my jobs has taken a worryingly techie turn).Total debt: 1 January 2007 £[strike]49,387.79[/strike] 1 January 2012 £[STRIKE]19,312.85[/STRIKE] 1 August 2012 £11,517.620
