Any chance you can see if any organisations want host families for foreign students? These tend to come intermittently for 3-7 days at a time. So quick bursts of income.
I was a host family organiser a year ago for about 4-5 trips. The families were paid about £13/night per child and could have up to 3 in a room. So for a 4-night stay, the rate was £13x3x4=£156. For that they had to provide a breakfast with a hot drink, a packed lunch of 2 rolls/sandwiches, pack of crisps, piece of fruit, choccy biscuit/bar and a drink. Also an evening meal including a dessert.
Worth a thought - if you are in the right part of the country and if your schedule allows this.0 -

Thanks hypno, I've sent you a friend request too. I found the MSE Nerds - fascinating to see people faces - everyone is so young and pretty!
thanks pasturesnew, not sure I can help with that
Hi Taxi, well I hope to get to 35k this month. It really depends if OH gets paid anything. He starts work next week at the art school but has a knack of not getting paid!
When I set the target of 35k I knew I had a good chance of getting there before xmas - it was hypno who turned it into a race!
This weekend I hope to put some things up on ebay and Amazon and also write a short story for a competition. That's if I can cure my fascination with Facebook.Total debt: 1 January 2007 £[strike]49,387.79[/strike] 1 January 2012 £[STRIKE]19,312.85[/STRIKE] 1 August 2012 £11,517.620 -

Me too, I'm very grateful, it's much more fun as a race. I guess I'm just not used to winning anything!Total debt: 1 January 2007 £[strike]49,387.79[/strike] 1 January 2012 £[STRIKE]19,312.85[/STRIKE] 1 August 2012 £11,517.620

New month, new total and I am SO CLOSE to 35k.
Barring emergencies I should get there this month.
Last night I made my first ever unaided ebay listings (OH has always done it before). It was ever so easy and now I'm dying to get listing. But our digital camera has chosen this moment to die, so I need to investigate how cheaply I can get a new one, and whether it's worth it.
Anyway, a good start to the month and I look forward to updating the signature very soon.Total debt: 1 January 2007 £[strike]49,387.79[/strike] 1 January 2012 £[STRIKE]19,312.85[/STRIKE] 1 August 2012 £11,517.620 -
Blimey. A cheque arrived today from a client paying super early. (The same client who caused me headaches last month by paying super late!)
When it clears I will be under 35k. Not safely under 35k, as the overdraft will climb back up again.
So I won't claim my prize (there is a prize isn't there? hypno you'd better start looking for a suitable smilie) until I'm safely under 35k with all the month's payments made.
But it's a nice surprise all the same.
Of course 35k is still a big debt so I'm not resting on any laurels. Time to get down to work.Total debt: 1 January 2007 £[strike]49,387.79[/strike] 1 January 2012 £[STRIKE]19,312.85[/STRIKE] 1 August 2012 £11,517.620 -

I have a dilemma today. I've got a whole day at home, so do I get on with my work (which I really need to do, I'm behind on several jobs) or do I devote the day to finishing off a short story I'm writing for a competition with only a very remote chance of winning the £1,000 prize. My head says work, my heart says story.
DS is off school ill so my chances of prolonged concentration on either task are not good. He has just shouted from the kitchen to tell me he's making me a jam sandwich.
The local college has offered me eight boxes of books from their library, but as OH drives to work now I have no way of picking them up! I'm wondering whether to get a taxi (expensive) or asking them to wait til Monday and insisting OH drives home at breakneck speed after his morning teaching.
A flier came through the door about Christmas work at the Royal Mail, I'm going to enquire for OH, as his teaching work ends in November. I really want him to earn something in December as it's an expensive month and I have £1095 tax bill to pay in January.
I also have to pay out £136 for a school trip for DD3 and I think DDs 1&2 get a trip to Spain next year which will no doubt be pricey. DD2 is doing Italian GCSE in one year as they have decided she is specially gifted, so I'd love to find a way to get her to Italy. That may have to remain a dream.Total debt: 1 January 2007 £[strike]49,387.79[/strike] 1 January 2012 £[STRIKE]19,312.85[/STRIKE] 1 August 2012 £11,517.620
