Get into that loft, my girl! Amazon is absolutely the best source of free money I've discovered. And you need to suss which books are worth Amazoning so you can take the rest to the carboot sale this week.

Commiserations about your inability to get cheap credit. Do you know why they're turning you down?

The new loan wont exactly take pressure off me, as I'll be paying £5 more a month. But it ends two months earlier so I pay less overall. I'm just really fed up that it didn't go through fast enough to save me paying this month's payment on my old loan. I should have had 2 months 'holiday' and now I'll only get one.

I really want to get my OD down now, I will have a tax bill to pay in January and need to make space for it within my overdraft.

no idea, about the credit really. Still making investigations on that one. On the plus side, OH did get his vanquis card for the cashback. OK, so getting a vanquis card approved is nothing to get too excited about, but things must be getting sorted because previously he could get no credit either.

I wouldn't mind if we were bad payers, I think though it is the combination of me being self employed and having relatively low guaranteed income, and the high level of debt we currently have.

However, as the debt comes down and the income goes up, hopefully things will change!

Well I have paid off my NatWest loan and my debt has dropped a grand or so. I will update my sig later this week when a few other payments have been made. REALLY hoping to hit 35 some time in October.

Tomorrow I start a new contract, working two days a week in an office. There are pros and cons but I think in the main it's a good move as I will at least notch up the two full days, unlike days spent at home, when I often end up only billing for a few hours.

Plus it's interesting work, a proper journalistic job where I will have to do lots of 'new things' (eg recording and editing sound clips, gulp) and even possibility of overseas assignments. I've said I'll do two days a week til Christmas, though they are already asking for more. We'll see - I really don't know if I will thrive on the stimulation/company etc or find it all very stressful.

But a change is as good as a rest, as they say.

I have definitely taken on too much work. I'm really behind on work for one client (my favourite but the lowest paying). I'm looking forward to reading the 'how to get organised' book hypno recommended - just need to read Thomas Hardy biography first.

On other matters.... I'm just about to sign up for a lovefilm sub, via quidco... rather nervous, I don't know why.

Hope you enjoy the job sea and regular salary payments will be worth it too! Good luck with it.

Sorry you didn't make as much as you'd have liked at the boot sale.

Right, I've done it. Joined Facebook that is.

I have been avoiding it but getting more and more curious as the invitations kept arriving from my dearest and most hard-to-keep-in-touch-with friends.

Now how do I find the MSE group? And does anyone want to be my friend? Yes I know that sounds desperate!

Thank you!!! I look forward to being your friend. I found the MSE group but as there are about 4000 people I decided not to join.

I will have to be careful not to get too addicted to Facebook.

Job is OK so far thanks. It's nice to be working with other people and be in an office with free tea and coffee, light and heat and a well-stocked stationery cupboard. It was pretty quiet this week, too, as the projects I'll be working on haven't got underway. So a gentle introduction.

I have sent you a friend request thingy!

The group to look for is MSE Nerds only a few members, and all people you will "know" so not scary at all!

I know what you mean about working in an office again - wouldn't want it all the time, but the odd days I do suits me nicely as a change of scenery!!
