The mini crisis has arisen as once again one of my clients has been slow to pay an invoice. They say they have a backlog and will process it "this week" - but will the cheque arrive before I go on holiday on Saturday?
How much do they owe you? Often one of the first signs someone is in financial difficulties is slow payment. In desperation, I'm even thinking of taking a credit card on holiday (I NEVER use them). I do have one with zero balance that I could use for all spending and pay off when I get back. That must be better than spending on the NatWest overdraft, which is the only other option.
If you are organised enough - and not reliant on OH - then it may be the best option.OH hasn't paid various bills I trusted him to pay, including the household insurance. I'm wondering whether to pay it myself (out of my £18% overdraft) or leave it.
Put the insurance on the credit card. Again - provided you're certain to pay it off. The consequences of being uninsured are quite high."Follow the money!" - Deepthroat (AKA William Mark Felt Sr - Associate Director of the FBI)

Thanks ZTD. I'm fairly confident it's not financial difficulties in this case, just that the cheque signatories were on holiday!
I'm hoping to talk to OH tonight about which of the bills he can pay, but assuming it's none, that's a good suggestion about putting the insurance on the credit card.
I'm resigned to the fact that I'll have to use a credit card this month, but I hate doing it. I hate having more than one 'priority debt' and I will have the NatWest overdraft to clear as well.Total debt: 1 January 2007 £[strike]49,387.79[/strike] 1 January 2012 £[STRIKE]19,312.85[/STRIKE] 1 August 2012 £11,517.620 -
See it as a positive - you are giving the rest of us in the race to £35000 a little chance to catch up
Just make sure that you have a good holiday, that you put money worries and frustrations to one side, and you all just enjoy yourselves. sorry to hear things are a bit of a pain at the mo seaxwyn, hope you get it sorted soon. And the idea of using the credit card seems fair enough and i know you'll pay it back.
WOuld OH set up a bills account where he can put all the bill money? have had to do this with OH atleast then he knows and you know that they are paid and you aren't fearful of him dipping into the money without realising it.debt @05/11/11 £12210.63!! slowly chipping away!!:heart2:impossible is nothing.:heart2:0 -
Thanks girls.
To be honest I'm not really looking forward to the holiday. I've been working so hard and feeling so stressed all summer I fear I won't be able to switch off. I'm dreading the long drive and being cooped up with OH, who I despise. I know the children are looking forward to it and they certainly deserve a good holiday, so I hope I feel better once I'm away from this place and all the things that get me down.
There's no chance of me making OH pay money into any account. Half the time he has no money anyway. I really hope things look up when he starts teaching i Oct, because I can't carry on keeping everything together much longer.
Oh dear what a gloomy post! I must snap out of this grumpy mood. Anyone got any good news to share?Total debt: 1 January 2007 £[strike]49,387.79[/strike] 1 January 2012 £[STRIKE]19,312.85[/STRIKE] 1 August 2012 £11,517.620 -
Oh Seaxwyn, sorry to read that you are not looking forward to the holiday. I really really hope that you are able to switch off and get some much needed "space" somehow. Hopefully the weather will be good, and the children happy, and if they are happy, things will be easier on you for a few days.
As for good news - I didn't spend any money today! And I have an interview for tutoring tomorrow! And I have set a new world record for the messiest house! And I had yummy 8p noodles for dinner tonight!!Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. They just wear better shoes. Today is the postie's last chance to bring my cheque before we go away. He doesn't usually come til around noon so I will be on tenterhooks still then.
Assuming he doesn't, I will spend the week with my NW overdraft at £313.83, and I should have enough space in my (interest free) A&L OD to survive the week without using a credit card.
OH has arranged to pay the insurance in Sept, and he has enough in his account to pay the other bills, I will just have to drag him to the bank.
Today I'll be sending out invoices for work in August, about £2,400 I think, I haven't added up the hours yet. I dont think there are any big bills due so we should scrape through September OK, but it doesn't feel like a lot of money given that I worked very long days throughout August, at great cost to my family life and my sanity!
I've got a final set of proofs to correct and six features to commission for next month's magazine and then I can turn off the computer and pack for the holiday, and wonder whether to spend £29  getting my legs waxed.Total debt: 1 January 2007 £[strike]49,387.79[/strike] 1 January 2012 £[STRIKE]19,312.85[/STRIKE] 1 August 2012 £11,517.620 -
Morning Seaxwyn,
Fingers crossed that the cheque arrives and you can get it in the bank before you go, even if it doesn't clear straight away, you can use the od knowing that it really is for the minimal amount of time.
As for getting your legs waxed, hell, you are on holiday now! You deserve a treat, (if indeed the pain of having your legs ripped apart is a treat!) and so therefore I would say go and do it!
All that remains then is for me to say, leave the stresses behind, have a safe journey and I hope you manage to get some R&R when you are on hols xxSuccessful women can still have their feet on the ground. Hi Hypno
Thanks for the permission but I've decided not to get my legs waxed - that's the price of an outing for all of us - so the people of Cornwall will have to put up with the sight of my hairy legs.
Also I want to get my hair cut when I get back and I couldn't really justify two big spends on personal grooming, could I?Total debt: 1 January 2007 £[strike]49,387.79[/strike] 1 January 2012 £[STRIKE]19,312.85[/STRIKE] 1 August 2012 £11,517.620 -
I know what you mean. One day we will both be able to have a pamper day, debt free and without any need to justify to anyone at all!!Successful women can still have their feet on the ground.
