    Hi Seax
we made it to NZ. Hope that by now you have come back from being in the dumps.

when you write out your pros and cons ref employed and self employed, which side do you put paying off my debts consistently. I would think that would be on the employed side? So that might tip the balance in favour of getting a job.

Also getting a job would enable you to bat ideas around as you mentioned. Was this why you didn't pursue (I mean really pursue) that job you friend mentioned in the pr firm? Would that have meant admitting that you were wrong about being self employed?

I think that you are being realistic if you got a job that paid the bills and left the campaigning work to be a hobby, that way you will still get some fulfillment from the campaigning, but also have a regular salary to pay the debts with.

    Result? A LESS STRESS YOU!!!!
    Go for it!

Thanks Chev. Glad to hear you arrived safely - how are things in NZ?

I am still thinking over the employed/freelance thing. I looked at the job ads in the Guardian this weekend and felt not too confident that I'd actually get any. Also looked in the local paper but it's mostly low-paid work round here. Getting a well paid job would mean commuting to London every day and that's a big minus in my view.

The stupid thing is that I can command a high day rate as a freelance, so potentially I could pay off my debts quicker this way. But as things are, I struggle to get through the work and it causes me great stress.

I ordered the book Steel recommended from Amazon and eagerly await its arrival. I would really like to find a magic switch to make me a productive and happy freelance!

On a lesser note, I have lost my purse, which is really annoying. I know it's somewhere in the house or garden but a thorough search has failed to turn it up. It's got £13.50 cash in it plus all my cards. I don't know when to give up and order new ones.

Hoping for a better week. I have a lot of work to get through, really hope I do it! Then Friday is the longest day and I would really like to celebrate that with a walk somewhere. Hope everyone else has a good week too.

I hope the purse turns up soon. If you are sure it is in the house or garden then I would give it a couple of days of searching before you cancel things - you now le loi de Murphy says that as soon as you cancel those cards, the purse turns up!

As for the job, you are good at what you do, so why should you not be good enough for one of those jobs in the guardian? What is it that leads you to think otherwise? Give it a serious thought about what you have and what you are lacking.....even if you don't apply for an employed position, it might help you in your self employed drive.

Have a good day, and enjoy the sunshine x

Hope the purse has turned up. How far of a commute wld it be to London? Would you have to go in every day or cld you work from home some days? Don't know if that wld be likely in your line.

Morning all. No sign of the purse. It's maddening! It has to be here somewhere, I'm not giving up yet.

Work... urgh.... still making heavy weather of a job I've got (been up two hours this morning and I've written three sentences!) I can't find the headspace to think over the job vs. freelance question at present. I've got freelance work for this week and next and then will review the situation.

Hope you all have a good day.

Oh - hope the purse turns up - it is infuriating when you know it must be in the house. Good luck with the work - hope you can get your head in gear for it - I do know how hard that can be!

The purse has still not turned up. I want to finish this work so I can devote a few hours to a thorough search. Although we have searched pretty hard already.

I made some progress with my work today, but not enough. I have an extra incentive to finish it as a friend has invited me to Wales for a couple of days. She has won a freebie trip to a posh seaside spa hotel. But it has to be taken before the end of June. This is the hotel: http://www.stbridesspahotel.com/ - looks nice, non? Hope I can go - but need to have work finished first.
