Bountiful, like hypno I have tried and failed with Flylady. I would like to discover a Flylady-lite.
Hi, lurker on your thread here...one of the first diaries i read when I joined, and found your tale very inspiring, and ive enjoyed reading this.
first time ive felt i could add something but in regards to flylady, it seems to be all about levels? everyone is different and households work different ways so why not try and see if you could adapt the system to suit you? try find a routine to get some of the tasks done each day?
do the kids help out in the house? from tidying up with little ones, ive found they love to help gather things up into piles (one of fly concepts?) and then its just a matter of getting stuff sorted out?
I dont really follow flylady myself as I live alone, and work full time but tend to have a weekday routine and then save bigger jobs for weekend - it works for me and I have sorted out what needs to be done and when, and try to stick to it?:j Debt-Free-Wannabe! :jDeclutter/Ebay/Savings0 -
Thanks mini Laura!
I find Flylady overwhelming but perhaps I should have another look, I admit it's a while since I last tried it. My kids are not bad, they do help if nagged, and quite like being given a special job, though they are resistant to everyday tasks. My older DDs are particularly helpful, one of them is a model Flylady really.
I do really want to get to grips with this so will have yet another go at getting things sorted this weekend.Total debt: 1 January 2007 £[strike]49,387.79[/strike] 1 January 2012 £[STRIKE]19,312.85[/STRIKE] 1 August 2012 £11,517.620 -
Hello Seax,
I'm a newcomer to these forums but I have to confess I have spent most of this evening reading your thread! It's now after midnight and I can't focus on the screen very well....and my bf has been nagging for me to come to bed for some time! I must say that your story is an inspiration to people out there and really shows how committed you are to your goal (despite OH's habits!, collapsing ceilings, leaks, car problems....)
So, well done on your progress so far and I really wish you the very best of luck for the continuation of your journey! The best way to forget all your troubles is to wear tight shoes.0 -
Thanks Bubble! and welcome!
AAARGH I am so cross with OH. Our car insurance expires today. I have been reminding him since January that he needed to shop around for a replacement. I've forwarded him details of good deals, told him to check on quidco etc etc etc.
He said he was dealing with it but I thought I'd better check and today I realise that our old insurance has been renewed at £256.64 and the money goes out of my account on Wednesday, there is nothing I can do to stop it. He received a letter on 6 Feb telling him this would happen if he didn't respond by a certain time.
OH hates my meddling in 'his' affairs but at times like this I really think I should open his mail. I'm furious.Total debt: 1 January 2007 £[strike]49,387.79[/strike] 1 January 2012 £[STRIKE]19,312.85[/STRIKE] 1 August 2012 £11,517.620 -
I would tend to agree with you. You have the patience of a saint!
Is it not possible to go onto online banking and cancel the Direct Debit/Standing order to your existing insurer? Then you can look look on a price comparison site and get an immediate quote without a break in cover. I'm sure I've cancelled the DD for this very thing in the past - it really annoys me that you have to instruct a company NOT to automatically renew a contract! B***ARDS!:mad:The best way to forget all your troubles is to wear tight shoes.0 -
HI Bubble. I suppose I will have to do that - especially since my bank send me a 'free insurance if we can't beat your renewal offer' deal. Which I told OH about in plenty of time.
Unfortunately I'm on a pressing deadline today and can ill afford to spend the time on the phone - grrrrrrrrrrr
I can assure you I have not got the patience of a saint today!Total debt: 1 January 2007 £[strike]49,387.79[/strike] 1 January 2012 £[STRIKE]19,312.85[/STRIKE] 1 August 2012 £11,517.620 -
Poor Seaxwyn..he's hard work isn't he?....don't know what to suggest ..the idea above sounded good but if you've got a deadline today ..thats more important...0

I've almost given up on the insurance. I kept ringing the number for A&L's special offer and being told they couldn't answer due to a technical fault. I haven't had time to shop around today.
Work is going well, a job that was meant to be 2 or 3 days but is taking much longer and the client says they'll pay for all the extra time. So that's good (except that it is mind-bogglingly boring).
I got a quick proof-reading job to do at the weekend. I'll do that while DS is climbing on Sunday. I've paid out £44.75 for climbing sessions over the next month now. Also the 3 girls are going to an embroidery workshop tomorrow, which is 4 or 5 pounds each. So naturally I abandoned any idea of going to musicals as well.
On Sunday I'm going to a friend's to raid his ski kit. I hope we can borrow everything we need - though I will still have to buy a few extra things, like presentable pyjamas for DD.
So all in all March looks like being another expensive month. And while I have got masses of work for the next two weeks, I have next to nothing booked after I come back from skiing. I haven't heard anything about that cookery website job, a bit miffed they didn't even acknowledge my application, but I knew it was a long shot.
Right, off to make tea. Have a great weekend everyone. I'm sure I will be on here as i am ploughing on with the boring job.Total debt: 1 January 2007 £[strike]49,387.79[/strike] 1 January 2012 £[STRIKE]19,312.85[/STRIKE] 1 August 2012 £11,517.620 -
You are doing really well getting on with the job...and at least they will pay extra and as you say you can do the proof reading while your son is climbing. You sound so much more organised.
You should be able to pick pjs up quite cheaply from primark, matalan poundstretchers etc...
You have a great weekend too...xx0 -
