I might be wrong but I was under the impression that voluntary contributions only count towards your pension and not to anything else. I might be wrong but I would check first.

right phoned NI helpline and they confirmed it, voluntary only count towards the pension, but i have a special cover as i have a dependant under 16 so don't need to pay any money.
they said that the only way to get smp was to earn over the level in the 8 weeks before the qualifying week (15 weeks before baby is due), so if i worked loads of overtime in those 8 weeks i could get smp. if not i could get MA but she didn't know if that was the same as smp ie same money and time off work as it is JP+ that deals with MA and not them.

    Evening everyone.

I'm not managing to get online as much now because we have lots of movement, and despite doing a good job at babyproofing there are still so many dangers.

Last Thursday Charlie sat up by himself, then Saturday he stood up, and Sunday he took a few steps by pushing his toy along in front of him, and he hasn't wanted to be sat down since, wether that is in the bath, the cot, my knee, or wherever, so he has suddenly become very hard work again as he keeps falling, and despite my best efforts hitting his head. Doesn't help that i have also hurt my arm - pulled muscle i think, but it kills, and am covered in bruises from bumping into the baby gate while going through it without him pulling the curtains down or banging his head on anything. I didn't realise it would be this quick.

I think the worst bit is the bathroom, as he is pulling himself up on the loo, and he was stood trying to suck the seat, which although is clean, is surely not a hygenic thing to do.

Despite all that, i am still TTC - i think this week will be when i am ovulating. I won't be going and buying an ovulation testing thing or anything like that, but just watching the signs of my body to see when would be best to try, as that worked super for us last time.

The only other theory i might take into account is that i had heard that you would be more likely to have a girl if you tried a few days before ovulation, and it would be nice to have one of each - but not sure how true the info is.

The other change with Charlie is i have given up blending his food now, and just loosely mashed it. He is eating loads. Today he had 1x weetabix for breakie, large portion of spag bol for dinner with a cheese string and a biscuit, then for tea, salmon, 1/2 a jacket potato and some courgette, followed by a petit filous yoghurt and a box of raisins, and a gingerbread man. As well he had 3 7oz bottles today. He is a proper muncher when he gets going, and doesn't like to stop.

For MA, you need to be earning over £30 a week. Then it's 90% of your average weekly wage.
Here I go again on my own....
  • Blimey Charlie sounds like a right guzzler. He'll be eating you out of house and home pretty soon. I can't see Jack ever eating like that. Often he refuses breakfast and his milk intake today was 15ozs. He has solids during the day but has to be finger food no purees. He doesn't eat a large amount either. I don't know how he keeps going, he is always active and at least one part of him is moving.

Maybe he is just not going to be a bit eater, I would have thought breakfast would be the one where is most interested. He has a 5 oz bottle around 7ish and offered a few spoonfuls of food at half eight, but he often refuses completely.

    Little pickle!

They are all so different aren't they. his cousins barely eat, and are not much heavier than him.

Charlie was 22Ib 6 oz last week, and his cousins 4yo is 30Ib,and nearly 2 yo, is 24Ib.

He gets it from his dad, who used to eat a tin of rice pudding as an after school snack and eat adult size portions.

I sometimes worry i am feeding him too much, but he isn't fat. In fact, he is only just chunking up a bit now around his thighs, but only the teeniest bit. I think he is just one of them boys who will eat for England, and at 9 months there is always chance he might change his mind and not want to eat, so i am letting him eat what he wants.

He starts at nursery on the 20th of August, so if he is funny with them feeding him it will all level out.
  • my DD was born on the 2nd June, so on the 2nd of every month i took a photo of her next to the calendar,
looking back through those pics are great, to see how much she grew... how fast etc
but you csan also clearly see that from 9 months onwrads she got really porky! chunked up like no-ones business! (cant say i noticed at the time) but as soon as she started walking at 12 months, the weight fell off her....

wish i had carried on with it, it got forgotten when she was about 2, but those early photos of monthly development are brilliant!
