India, for a couple of days you might have to 'go back to basics', feed on demand, just like when your lo was first born. Your milk supply will soon build up again.

  • Thanks to everyone who have given advice re Jack and dummies. Last night he didn't wake until I went to the toilet at 6.15am, cried for dummy and went back to sleep until 7.30am!!! however I am so used to waking up for him from 4am onwards, that from 4.50am through till 6.15am I kept waking every 10 mins or so in anticipation. So I woke feeling unrefreshed. It reminded me of when Jack used to wake between 1-3am for a feed and I would wake then in anticipation. When that feed was dropped it took me a while to adjust and sleep on.

I have a few questions for the dummy advisors. I have not put extra dummies in his cot before as I thought if he rolled on them it would be uncomfortable and wake him up. Is this not a problem? Having read your advice I did go up and put his spare dummy next to him.

Jack has black out blinds in his room and a nightlight which is on its lowest setting, just enough for us to see a open mouth to plug up!!! So its quite dark, although I agree come 4am it does get lighter in there. The HV said he probably wakes up around 4-5am as he is a terrible fidget (honestly this baby doesn't stop, at least one part of him is always moving) and as he moves into a lighter sleep at that time, he wakes himself up by fidgeting and then realises he hasn't a dummy and can't resettle. There have been occassions though when I have heard him cry out early on in the night, ignored it and haven't had to deal with him. I assume they are either sleepy noises or he has not properly woken up to miss his dummy.

I was going to reduce his dummy use today, but I have felt so awful still, I need to be well to cope with his loss. I am still getting cramps in my tummy from food and feeling nauseus pretty much all the time. I don't know now whether its the food poisoning or pregnancy related. I hope the cramps go soon I am forcing myself to eat.

I must go jobs to do!!

as i said, my DD had as many dummies as i could find in the cot with her of a night time, i know she rolled onto them and slept... there were times she woke up with a dummy imprint on the side of her face but it didnt seem to bother her, if i happened to be peeking in her room and she looked uncomfortable i might have tried to move it... but generally i didnt,
i guess i thought if she woke up because it was there she could always shove it in her mouth! lol

trust me... kids can sleep in positions and on things that would have us screaming with cramp or discomfort! they dont care!

dont worry...DD used to make loads of noise.... you would go up and check and she was fast asleep!
I never believed in the whole black out blind thing, its not always possible to have all the lights off and have everything dark when baby needs to sleep (like when being babysat by nanny, or on holiday etc) so i hated the thought of training her to only be able to sleep in pitch black and then having unneccessary disturbed nights when the room wasnt dark enough, (plus... i dont like the dark that much myself :o )
i used to lay her down for naps downstairs in the day time, front room, tv on, washing machine trying to escape across the kitchen floor in the background and if she was tired she would fall asleep... and now that girl can sleep through ANYTHING!, she has even slept through the fire alarm going off (burnt toast :D )
after my sister had my niece i was staying over at thiers one night and we were not allowed to flush the toilet after the baby was put down for the night.... i thought that was a ridiculous way to have to live.... creeping about like a burglar in your own home!

life is noisy, you have to learn to sleep through it or be very v-e-r-y tired!

That makes a lot of sense CG, the womb is quite a noisy place to be, so I think noise doesn't really bother babies, as long as it's not sudden or excessive.

And I don't like the dark either (glad it's not just me!), so neither of mine have ever been able to have pitch black rooms.

Oooh, I notice from your sig you have a scan tomorrow - hope you get to see lots of good close-ups of your baby!

I'm the same! Alice slept through without a feed last night but I was awake half the night in anticipation. I get more sleep when I have to get up and feed her!

On the subject of breastfeeding: my midwife said it takes a good two weeks before the milk disappears so you shouldn't have a problem restarting after two days. It might be harder if she was newborn and had only learnt how to feed from a bottle but if you've been breastfeeding up till now then she won't have forgotten.

Charlotte had her first injections yesterday. She was grotty and twisty yesterday evening and just wanted to be cuddled. Got her into bed no bother and she woke for a feed at 4.30am, but then went back to sleep till just now.

She had her 8 week check too. She's fine and doctor is pleased with her progress considering she was 4 weeks early. She said she's very slightly behind what you would expect from a normal 8 week baby. but it's nothing to worry about and she doesn't need to be seen again.

I had my post natal too. I'm fine but my legs are still swollen and my joints are stiff. Have to try and do some gentle exercise to get things moving again.

Off to court this morning. My hubby is applying for parental responsibility over my boys :)
Here I go again on my own....
  • Becles, just noticed Charlotte Jane weighed more than my lad who was 3 weeks early. Goodness knows how big she would have been if she had gone to term.

Hope today goes well for you and for the lady who has the scan. We'd like news please!!!!

Btw, JAck is now turning his nose up at the veg/fruit combinations, he just won't have it. Little pickle.

I hadn't realised your daughter was so early either Becles, she weighed more than Natasha - you must have been feeding her some good stuff while she was still in your tummy! Glad all went okay at her/your check-ups. Natasha has hers tomorrow. She's also had a letter about having her injections - I'm NOT looking forward to that!

Bailey, sorry the fruit/veg combinations aren't working, I love the way you call him a little pickle, that's so cute!

Oooh, forgot to say, I think my friend who lives opposite me has gone into labour - saw her getting in the car early this morning, hospital notes in hand, looking rather uncomfortable. She's due today anyway, so it would be bang on time. I'm supposed to be going over for coffee this afternoon, but I'm guessing that might be postponed for a couple of days now lol!

I love newborn babies, can't wait to have a cuddle. I bet Natasha will look huge in comparison now.
