Edited to say I regularly trawl charity shops for toys and books - that way if he destroys them I don't get too worked up.The IVF worked;DS born 2006.0 -
Choc, Poppy has the Leapfrog Block (red fox running about, are you in or are you out?! You will soon be singing along lol). She loves it and is fascinated by all the different textures and sounds.
I have recently bought her the VTech Walker:

The musical activity section on the front is detachable which she plays with in her playpen. No interest in walking just yet!0 -
OMG we have just fallen in love with train track for sons first birthday. Reserved it and picking it up tomorrow.
Meldoy block is fun. Also gets a smile from my little lad.
Friend has V tech walker and very impressed with it.
We also look at charity shops...sometimes a good bargain to be had0 -
3 kids thanks for the suggestion but I am not putting her milk into the rice, just water as it makes it more flexible for when we are out, her milk is hypoallergenic and quite foul tasting, so i'm trying to keep it out of her foods too. Jack tollerated thhis milk until 8 months, so expect Molly to go off it in the next 2-3 months and hope her ezcema doesn't flare up on regular stuff.
Purple, I have thought about finger foods for her, but at 5 months she's still a bit young, the HV is coming around tomorrow so will ask her what she thinks about finger foods. Jack took to them at around 7-8 months.
Update on potty training, Jack had nappy free time after dinner and began to wee on the carpet, I said "wee in potty quick.." and lifted him straight onto it. He then continued to wee (whilst looking) and we both clapped and cheered afterwards. This is a real result from last week pre-potty chair. I'm just giving him time in the afternoons for now and build on that.0 -

Something i was told about years ago is to put some washing up liquid in the potty - it foams when they wee, so they are entranced by it? Might be worth considering. The IVF worked;DS born 2006.0 -

Yes, it probably is a little young. Apparently a key thing before introducing finger foods is that they are able to sit well unaided as this has something to do with their ability to cope with it. Also whether they're showing signs of developing the pincer grip.
Be prepared for the HV to tell you that at 5 months you shouldn't be weaning at all yet, let alone trying finger foods lol.0 -
Love the washing up liquid idea! Will defo give that a go. Purple my HV is lovely and wouldn't say things like that, she knows I am weaning her due to consultant telling me to cut back on her milk, too much weight gain etc. She is very practical and takes each child on its own merit rather than text book. I really wanted to give her toast at the weekend though!0

Charlotte's Christmas presents when she was 7 months old:
She has played with this loads and is still playing with it:

and she also loves her crab to bits:

a rattle similar to this, but it's made from different materials and textures:. Not sure where it was bought from as it was a gift:

Good old rubber ducks! Currently teaching her colours with them.

One of these blowy up things - good for rolling between you and baby at first, then encourages crawling:

Wooden activity cube - something else with loads to do on it.

Thanks for all the ideas on toys. It's nice to hear about toys that children really like as I'm guilty of years of buying toys that I like the look of and my children aren't interested in - hence an attic full of barely looked at toys in pristine boxes!Js_Other_Half wrote: »Chocaholic110 - how about any of these?: http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/3487730/c_1/1%7Ccategory_root%7CToys+and+games%7C10198115/c_2/2%7Ccat_10198115%7CNursery+toys%7C10198284/c_3/3%7Ccat_10198284%7CBaby+activity+toys%7C10198287.htm

That second one looks like the sort of thing my best friend buys for Christmas so will hold off on that (at least she did with my first two - wonder if her buying tastes have changed since having children of her own??) but I really like the cube and train thing-y.SeptemberBaby wrote: »Choc, Poppy has the Leapfrog Block (red fox running about, are you in or are you out?! I noticed a lot of people recommending these but DS had one (well, the version 14 years ago!!) and neither he nor DD paid it the slightest bit attention. Will maybe see if I can try one at a toddler group or suchlike first as I'll be annoyed if it's another not-played-with toy.Charlotte's Christmas presents when she was 7 months old:

Ooh, yes, have tried the activity triangle at Busy Babies. I also really like that cube (but must remember I'm not buying for me). The ducks are cute too and I like the colours idea - going back to work in Reception and was slightly shocked that some four year olds still don't know their colours
So many ideas. Now the challenge is not to buy too many.0 -
Choc, my DS is clearly on Poppy's wavelength, he loves the V-Tech walker too and the Leapfrog cube thing, he sits with it turning it over and over to make it play the songs... until me and OH sing along... (White polar bear in the icy snow, slipping and sliding, away you go! Weeeeee! :rotfl: )
As I type he is entranced by a cup lid though so who knows...0
