3Kids, please don't feel guilty - you have done a great job getting to 5 months! :T It's been said on this thread a few times that the MOST important thing about feeding is that Mum and baby are happy.

I've never been a successful bottle feeder so I'm probably not the best person to advise about feeding, but rather than make up the bottles for the day in advance, couldn't you get all the bottles sterilised and filled with boiled water, stick them in the fridge, and then add the formula just before you warm each individual bottle? You could maybe measure your formula out ready into little containers at the start of the day, so that you just literally take the bottle out of the fridge, bung the formula in and warm it?

  • 3kids - you should feel proud that you have b/feed for this long - Ruby is now on 3 bottles each day with me feeding her inbetween - I am really pleased I have feed her this long as in the beginning I wondered if I would get to 4 days never mind 4 months :eek:she is much more settled and I sterilize the bottles fill them with water each morning the just add the powder when i need to. Its not that much trouble really- Good luck:p

  • Hi guys I borrowed a potty chair from my neighbour for a few days, but had to give it back as it wasn't hers either. Anyway long and short is, its the first potty Jack is wee'd in, so I am thinking about buying one. He has refused the standard potties around the house, they end up in the paddling pool.

The one we borrowed was this http://www.kiddicare.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/productdisplayA_73_10751_-1__13508_10001_?cm_sp=product_lister_page-_-top_banner-_-promo_product

Admittedly the wee he did was through his shorts as he just sat on it and wee'd before I pulled his shorts down, but he did do the action. The reviews are mixed for boys at the bottom of the page, so I don't know whether to spend out or not. He knows where wee comes from and how to wee, so now its just trying to show him where and timimg. Forget the toilet, the only good thing about that is the flush!

I'd like to get this sorted quickly, as I think I maybe able to get somewhere before the autumn!

    Parents of boys please help!!!

Bay - obviously I'm no expert, but from my experience of potty training Olivia.... I wouldn't bother with the gimmicky potties, just an ordinary one will do. If he isn't interested at the moment, I'd say he probably isn't ready. The usual advice isn't to start until 2-2.5 and boys are often a bit later than this, babycentre is pretty helpful for advice.

I think I tried to do it too soon with Olivia and that was around 2y3m I think - it took a few weeks and she hated the potty and went almost immediately to using the loo - I had bought 3 different gimmicky potties and she thought they were all toys and hated dirtying them! The cheapo one from Wilkinsons was the only one she'd use!!

Anyway I found it pretty stressful and this time around I'm definitely going to wait for Izzy to want to do it and to be showing all the signs of readiness. Obviously don't want to put you off if you're set on doing it, but just warning it might be quite a headache!! ;)

    Congratulations Carol :D

Make the most of him sleeping - I suspect in 6/8 weeks you'll be looking back at this time with longing!

Like Js_Other_Half said make the most of it. It is perfectly normal for them to sleep the majority of the day and even better if that continues all night!!!:rotfl:

yeah my wee man lulled me into a false sense of security with all his eat and sleep sleep sleeping at the start. He's 9 weeks now and although most nights he goes down at 7.30 or 8.30pm tonight he screamed for 2 hrs solid. (well on and off but it felt pretty constant)! I think its the heat.

I'm breast feeding him and although the Health visitor said he didn't need water i gave him some this evening for the first time and he guzzled it down, so i think maybe he was thirsty and my breast milk just wasn't doing the job. Anyone else give BF babies water?

    Hiya

Just got back from a long camping weekend with about 1000 people from the country we come from. It was wicked and the weather was fab  .

Anyhow, here is my plate of advise:

nadnad - just remember that the weather is hot, so babies are more thirsty so need lots of frequent BF as that is where they get their 'watery thirst-quenching drinks'. I rarely give Samantha water, and she is nearly 9m old. Bad mummy me :o .

carol9uk - if you are concerned about your baby sleeping so much in the day, then wake them up for a bit with a nappy change or bath. I do agree that in a few months you will be looking back at these days with longing.

Bailey - think Jack is still too young. Stick with a cheap potty, and when he is ready he'll do it. I used to put my boys onto the potty from about a year old - but only whilst they were naked waiting for the bath water to run - something about the sound of water running helps them to pass water  . Reminds me, I need to start getting my act together to repeat the same for Samantha.
