The distraction thing worked for a while, but no more. We gave him stuff he wouldn't normally be handling like toothpaste, boxes, calculator. But since he learnt to throw  a few days ago, these distractions go flying and the fight begins the second I sit him on the change mat.... Thanks for the replies I'll try the clean nappy next...:wall:0

I've tried the clean nappy, a special toy and other bits and pieces but LO is just as wriggly as ever - I might get one occasion where a new thing works and then the next time is a battle again so I know where you are coming from...not found a solution yet though just have to convince myself that I really am not torturing the boy even though he is trying to convince me I am...
tried out a "real " nappy today (bamboosle) as lo had done a poo an hour before bedtime and thought it would be good not to waste a nappy (I have to put a clean one on at bedtime however new the nappy he has on is) I was pleasantly surprised as we had a second surprise and no leakage! Usually every messy nappy leaks on my boy he just wriggles too much for proper containment. It was still quite dry too so they really are very absorbant.
Anyway I'd like to get some more as the two I have from freecycle will not do a day, does anyone on this thread have any recommendations of good and most especailly cheap places to get some from?MSE PARENT CLUB MEMBER.ds1 nov 1997ds2 nov 2007:jFirst DDFirst DD born in june:beer:.0 -
My nephew is a nightmare to change since he's found his feet, he doesn't want to sit still for a second and his mum has a real struggle. Distraction doesn't work for her as he just wriggles and screams.
DS1 was no problem to change but DS2 is already trying to push himself along the floor by digging his heels into the carpet when on his back.
It was DS1 leaving assembley this afternoon, he finishes nursery on Tuesday and moves into reception in September, it was a lovely little assembley i got a bit emotional but didn't cryIf everyone cared and nobody cried, if everyone loved and nobody lied, if everyone shared and swallowed their pride then we'd see the day when nobody died.
ROCK IT DON'T STOP IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
BE GOOD OR BE GOOD AT IT!!!!!!!!!!!!

I give Elliot either a remote control or my mobile phone and suddenly he becomes fascinated, and is like an angel - for about a minute anyway...
Agutka, this is what I do too. Why do they prefer what they shouldn't have?!. Poppy also likes to munch on the baby wipe pack which seems to also do the trick but I do have to make sure the coast is clear of any other baby-desireables otherwise she's on a rolling mission to nab them!
This week we have clapping hands, waving hello and goodbye and blowing kisses! Oh, and she has been putting books in front of her face playing peekaboo too! :j

Aargh. He's just had his fourth dirty nappy today and every nappy change is a war. :wall:He wants to go off exploring or at least not be on his back for longer than a second and I'm trying desperately to keep the mess from going everywhere. I say no loud and clear
and plonk him back down, he's crying and using all his muscles to get away, while I wipe bottom, legs, hands and changing mat, then he gets away and we start again.
Does this stop (will he learn that nappy change time is waiting time) or is this just the norm from now on?How do you manage?
I try singing! The Wheels on the Bus usually does the trick and he even starts waving his arms about in time to the words!0 -
I have a mad wriggler baby too, and nothing works distraction-wise. Combine this with enormous mega sticky poos we've been having recently, and you can imagine the fun we have, baby being held by his ankles, screaming his head off, poo everywhere... Great fun.
Sorry, no advice whatsoever, Agutka.I could personally do with some baby-size handcuffs... :rotfl:

Lol, I've found a temporary solution - hubby is in charge this weekend!
I do prefer the pointless screaming to be performed in a seperate room.
On a more fun note, I've changed lunch into self feeding time. Oh the mess. I'm not sure Joseph is getting enough calories in him, but our dog is in heaven. Saves me cleaning the floor I suppose.:wall:0 -

We have got all our real nappy stuff from Makes A Change (www.makesachange.co.uk) They were really helpful when it came to making a big purchase as I didn't know what to buy. My criteria were that they had to dry quickly (so we didn't have to buy so many) and birth-potty would give us best value when it comes to #2. We have 12 nappies and 4 wraps and this does us fine. All of our nappies are 'teddy' nappies (feel just like a teddy bear!) and this means they dry overnight - even in winter. In summer a couple of hour on the line and they are done! I think we paid about £150 but I don't think this is much in the grand scheme of things, especially as they will do #2 as well. If you want any more info then PM me or call Emma at Makes A Change, she's lovely.
Don't forget to speak to your council about whether they do any cashback scheme. We got £50 back :money: . Our scheme was meant to be 2 separate cash back amounts of £25, but I spoke to the relevant person and explained we were buying birth to potty and she agreed to give us all the money on only one purchase.
On another :money: note, we've been asked to take part in a trial of a new pull-up nappy which Tots Bots are developing. It's for potty training, which we have so far had 2 unsuccessful goes at! We get 4 pull-ups to use, fill in a form with some feedback and get to keep the nappies :money: :money:
Anyone got any tips for potty training? She seems ready as she comes to us when she's done a poo and says so. She has even come to us beforehand saying she needs to go, so we thought she was ready. But I spent Thursday with her practically glued to the potty and every time she got up she weed everywhere! Any tips gratefully received!MSE Parent Club Member #1Yummy slummy mummy club member50% slummy, 50% mummy, 100% proudImogen born Boxing Day 2006Alex born 13 July 20090 -
Hi,
Our baby is due in October. I just want to get ready and grab all the stuff on reasonable prices/speacial offer. Can anyone provide a links for any free baby stuff and any other websites with special offers on?
Thanks
