Confession time, am I the only one who still has 'pregnancy brain'? I am seriously stupid nowadays to the bemusement of OH. A friend of mine said she felt a bit dozy for 18 months after baby (), what are your experiences?
To be fair it is getting better - a few months ago I found it hard to count to 5, 6, 7 - milk scoops whilst making Joseph's bottles. Now it's just little things like how do the vacuum bags work when a hoover blows? Or recent fave - there came a point in my life when I couldn't immediately identify right from left - so have been using the trick of making L shapes with your fingers - the L stands for left, but now I find myself unable to remember which way round the letter L goes, so still have to think about it. *sigh*
My brain is definitely not the same since I had my 2. Youngest is 20 months now and still I'm having my moments. For instance I just got back from picking DD1 up from school to find that I didn't lock the front door. We live at the end of a cul de sac on a quiet development, but that's not the point!! Am hoping she doesn't grass me up to daddy :rotfl:0 -
I lost my brain about 9 years ago when I had ds1. :rotfl:
He is officially smarter than me now too  .
I weaned boys at 4 months as were the guidelines then. However with Samantha I waited until she was 10 days shy of 6 months and it was so much better and easier !!!
I never pureed a thing. The most I have done is mash food with a fork, or done BLW.
I would seriously advocate waiting, but each to their own ...0 -
3kids, I waited. My GP told me the guidelines had changed because of new research showing that whilst some babies guts are mature enough to deal with food at 17 weeks, some are not ready until around 26 weeks. So as all babies are ready by 26 weeks, I felt it wasn't worth the risk, and so waited. Some of the problems associated with early weaning might not become apparent until much later on, even into adulthood, so I was happy to wait.
I am glad I did because the nappy of a baby on milk alone is a pleasant thing compared to one on solid food... _pale_
As for pregnancy brain... actually I feel it is wearing off. I am going back to work in September and am looking forward to it  though I don't know if I'll do it for more than 3 months (contract obligations!) and I am starting a degree, and taking on some other things, I want to be busy, for the first time in my life!0 -
Or recent fave - there came a point in my life when I couldn't immediately identify right from left - so have been using the trick of making L shapes with your fingers - the L stands for left, but now I find myself unable to remember which way round the letter L goes, so still have to think about it. *sigh*
To the constant amazement of my husband I have never been able to remember left from right, I don't know why, I just can't. That letter L is a great trick and I've taught it to all the children I've ever taught - think I was about 27 before I learned it!! Must admit I do usually have to put both hands up at the same time so I can see which one is the L (hope none of the parents of children I teach read this!!)
I have serious baby brain and it's very worrying as I'm back to work on Monday  Also on Thursday and Friday this week I'm working with a University research group writing lesson plans - not sure how much help i'll be! Hence tomorrow is my last day of maternity leave *sniff*
As to the weaning, I weaned DS1 and DD at 4 months, as per guidance at the time, and they were quite happy to take evrything they were given. DS2 is now 25 weeks and have been trying him over the past couple of weeks but he is very reluctant to have anything but breastmilk (and won't even have that from a bottle) so think he might be very hungry on Thursday!0 -
I was fine with my left and right until I started learning to drive!
My instructor: 'turn left here'
..
'no, the other left'0 -
My pregnancy brain comes and goes.
I was at work the other day doing an audit in a supermarket and I had to work out the capacity of shelves if they were full. I was doing simple sums in my head like 3x8 and 4x8 and I couldn't think of the answers
Then the following day I got a uni assignment back and was bouncing off the walls as I got 88% in it (over 85% = distinction)Here I go again on my own....0 -
Still preggy brain here too....not as bad as I was though and it definately started when I was pregnant (and still at work:eek: ).
Funnily enough I weaned ds1 late for the times - about 5/6 mths as I just went with him really and he wasn't ready that young. DS2 however was close to snatching food from our plates by 14 weeks so he was started at 4mths and I had a job to limit the amount he ate! (he would cry when we got to the bottom of the bowl/jar).

I blame everything on baby brain it a good excuse anyway!!
Ellie is 7 months and she has started refusing milk feeds (breast) during the day. So she is only taking a big one in the morning and another before she goes to bed. She has been on solids since 4 months and now has 3 meals a day. Should I be concerned? Has others experienced this?Everyone is entitled to their opinionEllie 25/12/070 -
Hi all just catching up on about 5-6 pages of reading here.
For the person who was talking about baby baths, with Jack I used one for about 4 weeks and gave up in favour of the big bath and Molly I never used it for. If she goes in with Jack, I cradle her head body in my arm whilst washing her. If she goes in on her own, I make it very shallow, so she can lie on the mat and kick about and move on her own and I have two hands free to wash her. She loves it a lot. The water depth comes over her ears but not to her mouth/nose etc. She does a lot of froggy moves and is very happy. If she is in the bath with Jack I have recently started to sit her up in the bath opposite him, so she can watch what he is doing, that's very interesting apparantly. But she does have good head/neck/back control already, I am hoping she will learn to sit next month, she really wants too and so do I. Make my life a lot easier.
For the record I had to wean Molly at 1 day off 4 months, she is a big girl last week weighed in at 17.10lbs and that is with me cutting her milk back. She started waking up early, so food it is. I have to be careful what I do so I don't exacerbate her ecxema, luckily she reacts within a few hours so I shall know what caused it.
I can't believe her weight though, its a little embarrassing at times when people double take me when they ask how old she is. Jack wasn't her weight until he was well over 7 months. She's just turned 4.5. As parents both myself and DH are slight and Jack is heading that way too. Hope its just her at the mo and nothing more serious.
Bed for me, soo tired.0 -
My LO is also having less and less milk during the day. I stated weaning him at 5 months and he was on 3 meals a day by 6 months. He started refusing bottle feeds and as I had to study he missed breastfeeds but seemed fine. Now (7 months) he can be very picky and not want to feed, or not feed enough. We have set times for BF so he sometimes misses and again, there's never a problem.
I consulted a breastfeeding/weaning specialist who told me that babies will not starve or dehydrate themselves (as long as there are no medical issues affecting their feeding habitts).0
