Ok, breastfeeders, can you help me?
DS has started to bite, HARD. It makes me jump which is enough to get him to let go, and then I put him on the floor and said 'no' firmly and walked off but he screamed the house down. He is teething, we think he might be getting the top ones as the gums look a bit swollen there.
But in the meantime I am going crazy, I can't feed or comfort my baby, he is in pain, he wants to latch on but can't, what can I do?
How long might this last?

 Oh you poor thing, I hope he gets better soon. They get so frustrated now don't they. I know Joseph gets really upset if you set his food down for a minute during a meal, so mummy walking off must be terrible. And they don't understand inflicting pain I don't think - I try to teach J, but he just laughs at me
.
I hope someone can give you advice for immediate relief.:wall:0 -

My DS went through a stage doing this. It lasted about a week, but he didn't do it every feed, just in the afternoon. I used to pull him off and sit him on my lap facing in the opposite direction to me and not facing anything interesting. I would also say no firmly. I would sit him there for a minute or so, and then latch him back on and he wouldn't bite again during that feed. It passed after about a week, but I was getting to the point where I was wondering it I would have to stop feeding him and then suddenly it stopped.
Try putting some teething gel on before you start so they are more numb and less likely to bite to relief any pain.
Hope it passes soon.0 -

I think I used to put my finger over the top of the nipple when they latched on. I am sorry if this is a bit vague cos my youngest is now 7, and its been a while since I BF him;)
I know a lot of people dont like nipple shields but i used those occasionally too.
Hope you get on ok;)Member no.1 of the 'I'm not in a clique' group :rotfl:
