Yes please for the tips! I got our eurotunnel crossing using the points, you may remember Izzy scribbled all over the deal tokens when they arrived, but luckily Eurotunnel didn't refuse to take them :D

I used to use all the points codes with my shopping but they've really dried up lately and I'm not collecting many any more.

    Some tips:

Open more than one accout but make sure they are all in the same surname as some deals have surnames printed on them. As long as you collect over 150 points per account, you'll get a mailing each quarter with extra points codes.

Join all the accounts in the various clubs for extra points mailings - Healthy Living, Food, Baby and Wine clubs.

Make sure you allow communication from Tesco on each account and then you'll get till spits. These are bonus point coupons that come out after your receipt for a variety of items.

Register on www.paidtoshop.co.uk where you will find information on all the glitches on points coupons, people share extra point codes for online orders, you can swap unwanted coupons in "swaps" or maybe be given coupons for free on the "giveaways" thread. Also keep an eye on ebay, but prices tend to be really stupid on there these days.

The best glitches I have used have been with nappies and wipes. Most of the coupons will scan on Tesco own brand nappies and if you find a happy scanner they will take a bundle of points coupons for the different varieties of Pampers and Huggies. Most of the wipe coupons scan on any wipes. There was an extra points if you buy Johnsons wipes offer a few months back, so I bought them and used some Pampers and Huggies wipes vouchers too.

Be careful though as it gets very addictive :D

Nice to see you Welshlassie - hope you enjoy the thread.

Good to hear from you Bailey and pleased to hear that things sound more positive at home.
Here I go again on my own....

Sorry have a couple of queries...

What do you mean 'happy scanner?'

Can you use spits on any brand?

    thanks
Mum to 2 lovely boys who keep me busy.
  • I think Becles means someone who "doesn't strictly play by the rules" and will take more coupons that they are supposed to.

Hi all, have just been catching up nearly four weeks of posts. We went on holiday for nearly two weeks but our internet went down just before we went away and have only just managed to get it sorted out.

We found Elliot's first tooth last night. 4 months of teething symptoms, I was starting to think it might never happen! But there it is, shiny white and as sharp as a needle. That and the bruises, scratches and pinchmarks are putting me right off breastfeeding :o
I have terrible trouble with Alice pinching and scratching whilst feeding without seeming to be aware of what she's doing but just recently, she's started playing with a twidly rattly toy she got for her birthday and that seems to have made a huge difference as she plays with that instead.

Speaking of breastfeeding, lovely to see the campaigns happening, maybe they might even explain to first timers that it is hard work and not like in the videos, so we won't be put off at the first sign of trouble (I seriously didn't know the truth, so gave up thinking we were just pants at it).
I agree. I found it very difficult at first and half the problem was thinking I wasn't doing it right when I was because all the stuff says that it doesn't hurt unless you have the latch wrong. Knowing what to expect would have made it so much easier to deal with as I was not expecting it to be so difficult/painful.

I think it's men they need to educate too as I would never have carried on if OH had suggested bottle feeding when it was really difficult but here I am 13 months later still breastfeeding.
Ok I know I will be starting a difference of opinion but I just want to get a general idea/opinion!!
What age do you think a 1st child should be when you start trying for a second?

    TIA for your opinion
I guess it depends on your circumstances. We are planning on waiting till Alice is around 3ish before we start trying again because I was so ill during pregnancy (OH had to came home at lunchtimes to look after me) but we also have the time to do that as I am not at the point where we are thinking we don't know how much more time we might have.

    Morning all

quick question, what do you use for daytime naps? LO gets put in cot at nursery but I still use pram at home?
We usually use the cot for all sleeps at home (although I used to do one nap in the pram and go for a walk) and use the sling if we're out.

But.......wooooo, peanuts, I am so excited about being able to have peanuts.....what shall I have first? Snickers? Chicken satay? Nutrageous? Peanut butter? (I don't especially love any of those, but I've been craving them for the last 18 months because I knew I couldn't have them :rotfl:)
My OH is allergic to peanuts and the thing I miss is peanut buttercups but you can't get them in this country (or not as far as I know and don't tell me if you can) so it's quite easy not to have them.
Has anyone any thoughts on a good travel cot? DD will be 5 months when we need it and I was looking at a samsonite pop up bubble as space will be limited due to my obsessive need to pack everything but the kitchen sink:rotfl:but I could fit in a normal travel cot if I have to
We bought this one because we wanted one we could use camping and also this one goes up to age 3 whereas most (according to the girl in Mothercare) only go up to age 2. I was actually very glad of having it on the holiday we just had because there was a mouse in the flat and I would have been worried about it getting to Alice if we hadn't been able to zip it all up. Do you have a pram or Moses basket as you could probably still use that at 5 months. We used the pram for Alice at 6 months but only just as she was almost too long for it.

Re blackout curtains - we bought blackout linings which aren't that effective as the curtains are on a pole set slightly out from the window. We also have a blackout blind which I push into the window aperture, but the room still isn't black! I'd say dim is about as good as it gets, but we're happy for Imogen to sleep in the semi-light as she needs to be able to.
Sounds similar to us except we use a bit of cardboard in the window because it's so bright otherwise at 7pm due to Alice's room being west facing.
Maybe we should break it down into sections which could become Stickys :-

It had crossed through my mind that over time the thread could get rather large as people's children get older and new ones come along so I had wondered about some kind of similar thing.
Things are going well in our household, Ian has been back at work for 4 weeks now and I am managing the two children fine. My confidence is back, Molly is in a routine and Jack, well is Jack!
    Glad things are going well.
Healthwise, she's just got over a chest infection which required antibiotics, last week was a nightmare until I took her to the docs, now she's finished the course she's a different babe. However she also has reflux, worse than Jack had it, but I'm trying to view it positively, as parents we know how to handle it and she's on poo juice like Jack was. As she's on the double dose Gaviscon we have an appointment with a paediatrician to see if she needs anything stronger. Its not for a fortnight, but we can muddle through until then. The amount of clothes, bibs, muslins and terries we are going through is unreal. I'd got so used to Jack not needing bibs and muslins, i'd forgotton how much washing they create. Not to be helped by the fact Molly needs two bibs at a time to help cope with the milk she sicks back. As I was getting her ready for bed this evening I had to wipe and cream her neck, jawline and shoulders three times before I could get her dressed and bibbed up..........Miss Pukey Pants at her best!!! She also had bad baby excema and thrush under her neck from all the sick and excema all over her body and that's with being on Nutramigen (hypoallergenic milk). However Jack had outgrown it all by 8-9 months, so hopefully she will too.
Wow that all sounds hard work - makes me realise what an easy life I've had with Alice.
Glad to report that everything is as it should be and the only test she did was to see how Poppy picked up a building block. Apparently she should be using her finger and thumb which she did instead of just grabbing. Can honestly say I never noticed this progression before...such a bad mum! :rotfl:. She just took my word on all the other questions .
It's progression from the "palmar" grip to the "pincer" grip. My OH is obsessed with pincer grip and has only recently stopped commenting on it nearly everytime he saw ALice using it. I'm sure it was just because he was so pleased with himself that he knew what it was called.
Any question, comment or opinion is not intended to be criticism of anyone else.

  • Thanks susan - I will look into that one - does it fold up small? I didnt want to take the carrycot from the pram as it takes up so much room and wasnt quite sure if she will still be in her moses basket by then:p

Susan, do you mean the Reeses Cups? You can get them in Asda..... ;)

And I'm very impressed at how much work you put into your post, all that copying and pasting of quotes. :T

Well, so far I have had two Kitkat peanut chunkys, a Starbar and a vegetable satay since stopping breastfeeding......think I am peanutted out and am heartily sick of them! Completely blown my diet too, but I have lost 10lbs in the last 7 weeks, and managed to breastfeed to almost 13 months, so I reckon I deserved a little (!) treat!!!

Eek help! I think I've got him addicted to Medised! Joseph has just had a massive crying fit (teething? constipated?) and then just wouldn't settle, looked in pain, so I gave him a dose of medised and he conked out straightaway. I've been using it all week with his cold to help him sleep, but now that his cold is all better I'm feeling guilty. Like I'm drugging my baby to get some peace and quiet!!

Welcome back to all the holidayers. It's my turn soon!
Welshlassie - I can't believe you've only just got here!
Bailey, great ideas. Start with Sticky-ing this thread, I was just thinking that last week. And the ttc one.

Agutka, if he seemed to be in pain then I would have given the medicine too - if he's not got a cold any more, try plain Calpol (or Galpamol, as we ARE on MSE after all!) if you are feeling guilty.

You've got to find a balance between leaving them to suffer in pain and giving them too much medication, and you seem to be finding it, so unless you are dosing him up on a regular basis just because you fancy a quiet night, stop torturing yourself. :)

Hi, has anyone got a recommendation for a UV sun shelter, pop up tent type thing? I want something to take on hols with us this year, as well as for use in the garden. Littlewoods direct and Additions have got a Sun Sense one for £18 + p&p that looks pretty reasonable - secondhand ones seem to go for the same sort of price on ebay. But it would be better to have one recommended.
