Re holidays - we flew for 2 hours with Imogen at 5.5 months and she was a star. We took her to Tenerife (4 hours) at 15 months and she screamed all the way there, but only for 30mins on the way back.
It's certainly easier if they aren't moving, but I don't see a huge difference between 8mths or 10mths.
Becles - glad you've managed to get something sorted. Can't believe how nasty people can be when they thing they're anonymous. Bet they wouldn't say it to your face, cowards. The job sounds fab too, you must have made a good impression, so well done!
Highchairs - we have the Chicco Happy Snack. Half the price of the Polly and the only difference I can see is that the Polly has a moveable foot rest. It does have nooks & crannies, but the cover/cushion removes easily and the seat can be wiped down easily. The basket underneath is handy too.
When Imogen first tried to say 'quack' it came out as '!!!!' . I've managed to modify it to 'cack' now, but I was a bit horrified before I realised what she was trying to say - she pointed at the ducks in a book. She now also says 'duck'.MSE Parent Club Member #1Yummy slummy mummy club member50% slummy, 50% mummy, 100% proudImogen born Boxing Day 2006Alex born 13 July 20090 -
I have had such an upsetting afternoon.
Took Samantha to get weighed this afternoon, and then we popped into Tesco's. We always go through the self service till as it gives DS1 and DS2 something 'positive' to do in the shop, because they can play up - especially DS2.
Anyhow, we have passed everything through the till and as I stuck my card in the pin machine I heard this almighty bag, turned around and the trolley that Samantha has been stapped into was lying on the floor sideways, and DS2 was standing nearby. I screamed to him 'what have you done' whilst I rushed to her and unstrapped her from the 'baby seat'. She was screaming her head off, I was balling my eyes out, DS2 was apologising (he had climbed up on the side of her to give her back her rattle), and it was just terrible. Somehow the staff finished off our packing and she finally stopped crying by the time we got back to the car.
I stopped in at the GP's on the way home, as a head injury from that height doesn't bear even thinking about and they saw her straight away. Bless them. Dr gave her a thorough examination, says he can see nothing untowards now, but gave me a checklist to watch out for and to take her down to A&E if I get worried. Samantha for her troubles was the most 'delightful' baby whilst she was checked out, smiling, cooing, giggling and started to cry again when we left the Dr. Cheeky monkey !
I can't be angry with DS2 either (bless him he thought he was going to lose the tv, ds, wii, playstation - the lot) as I know he didn't do it on purpose but he plays up so much when we go into a shop that sometimes I don't know what to do with him.
The good thing is, they are bouncy at this age, and Alex was fine (after screaming his head off and nearly being sick). As I said, it was very scary at the time though and it took me a few days to get over it.
So yes, the moral is, be careful with those trollies, everyone - they do have a mind of their own and they're not as sturdy as they look. Also, Tesco don't seem to be very bothered about replacing the broken ones. :mad:0 -
Re: Lidl nappies, I have used them (not sure if they were Tourjour ones or whatever, but I'm assuming all their own brands are the same
) and they are perfectly fine. If you're worried, SB, just use them during the day and keep the trusty Huggies for night-time.
Re: crawling, we're not doing it yet (Alex is 7 months). He's staring to think about it though, and can shuffle along on his back, which is a bit bizarre. :rotfl:
Re: holidays, we took DS1 to Spain when he was 9 months and he was fine. Also, both our boys went on a plane (short haul) at 3-4 months and it is do-able.
And how cute is Natasha in her little video, bless! :T0 -
Forgot to ask, does anyone use a Hipseat? I'm thinking of getting one, and have seen good feedback. My little angel is so blooming heavy at 24lb that I need some help lugging him around!
Hoping to grab a bargain on Ebay, although they do fetch high prices there. :rolleyes:0 -
Who cares about her talking when she can DRIVE!! :rotfl:"I wasn't wrong, I just wasn't right enough.":smileyhea97800072589250

izoomzoom that sounds really scary - I would've thought the trolleys would be more stable than that.
Holidays - we went on our first one when Alice was three months which was very handy as she didn't need solids yet and didn't move about at all. We also had a holiday when she was nine months by which time she was crawling but fortunately couldn't get out of the bumbo seat (thanks to fat legs) so we were able to use that to contain her when we needed. We also used the bumbo to give her food as there was no high chair in the holiday cottage. I guess at eight months they're less likely to be getting around and even if they are they'll be easier to contain but food might be easier if they are older? (I don't know about food though because we did BLW so never had to mash or puree.) I don't think there's much difference in sleeping between 8 and 10 months although it's worth getting your baby used to a travel cot BEFORE you go away. (We were going to do this but only got it a few days beforehand and Alice had a cold so we didn't and ended up with two terrible nights the first two nights.)
Somebody asked a while ago about slings for a newborn and I've kept meaning to reply: I'd recommend a stretchy wrap (such as the Kari Me sling). A strechy one makes it easier for putting them in/out and you can use it in different positions. You can use it for feeding although I didn't very much because by the time I had mastered the art of breastfeeding well enough, Alice was feeding on both sides at most feeds and you would have to retie it to change sides. We still use it now for front carries (Alice is just over 20lbs) but we've just bought a woven wrap too because the stretchy wrap sags too much for back carries.
That clip of Natasha is very cute. Alice makes all sorts of sounds and seems to understand quite a lot but the only thing she seems to say with meaning is "did did did" which means she's not happy about something.Any question, comment or opinion is not intended to be criticism of anyone else.2 Samuel 12:23 Romans 8:28 Psalm 30:5

hello everyone.
Been a while since i popped in. Can't believe i am now 2 weeks into my maternity leave, and not a lot further on in being ready for the baby, but i will get there. If i rush around too much i get bad back ache and pains in my knees, so i am trying to just do a little bit every day rather than run around and then suffer for a few day.
highchairs - have to say, i agree the ones that the trays come off are better. I can't remember the model i have as i barely used it. The good point was it folded quite flat for storage, but it was annoying as i trapped my hand every time i opened/collapsed it, and it was impossible to clean the fabric seat. We swapped to a handy sitt, and it was the best decision we made as DS is now 17 months and brilliant at sitting at the table, even if there is no high chair available. He is always being complimented on how well he eats.
izoom shocking about the trolley. I wouldn't have thought it possible to tip themWill definitely take even more care with them now.
holidays - we took DS to centre parks at 9 months, and he was only a bit mobile. That worked ok. We took plenty of jars as i didn't want to spend the whole week blending food for him. He travelled loads better at the younger age than he does now. We are doing Devon this year, and i am dreading it as he will be so bored on a long drive. We will have to break it up i think. Particularly as the new baby will be only 3 months old by then, and it is about 6 hours from here.
heather glad to hear all went well with your scan. So now you can relax and start blooming.
I think i am now at the stage where the bump looks a bit grotesque - really stretched and a bit fake looking. Can't wait for B - day.

Our holiday when Alice was 3 months was 5 1/2 hours away and we found it wasn't too bad as she slept for most of the journey. What we did was: 8.30-10 drove while she had usual nap; 10-11 feed; 11-12 our lunch and wander round service station; 12-2 drove during normal nap; 2-3 feed; 3-5 drove while she slept which she doesn't usually do at that time; 5 arrived and fed; 5.30 bath as usual; 6-7 feed as usual; kept up till 9 because of extra sleep on journey then back to normal. We did similar when visiting OH's parents at 5 1/2 months except we had to stop for 5 o'clock feed because we were delayed and she was crying and then when we got there she was too excited to feed or sleep so didn't go to bed till after ten o'clock feed.Any question, comment or opinion is not intended to be criticism of anyone else.2 Samuel 12:23 Romans 8:28 Psalm 30:5

Has anyone seen this baby sex prediction calendar? http://www.chinesefortunecalendar.com/PredictSex.htm
It's meant to be really accurate - it was certainly right about Imogen! They are doing a survey to see how accurate it is, so if you know what time you were born then you can enter your details. Michelle & Heather - would be interesting to know what it says and what you end up with!
Bay - how are you getting on? You've been quiet. Everything okay?MSE Parent Club Member #1Yummy slummy mummy club member50% slummy, 50% mummy, 100% proudImogen born Boxing Day 2006Alex born 13 July 20090 -
